I was A.B.C Anyone but Caldwell so I really don't care If they get someone who can play QB at a high level consistently Whisenhunt will do well, if they don't he'll be gone in about 3 years. Whether it's Locker or someone else.7 points -

Bellicek sucked as a retread. Bet the Pats wished they never hired him. And no, nobody can say that they thought Bellichek was going to be great after he failed in Cleveland. Wiz makes sense to me. Whether he will be great or not is very much a question. But for me, this is as good of a hire as we were likely to make and now no one can say that we have just stayed in the Fisher tree. Things will be different in Nashville. Better? Not sure. Worse? Not sure. Different? Absolutely.6 points -

people want the "fresh" "young" HC with new ideas. sometimes it works sometimes it's an epic disaster (Josh McDaniels) 3 of the 4 coaches left in the championship games happen to be retreads (BB, Carroll, Fox) Since 2001, 7 SB have been won by retreads. I don't have a problem with a retread it's a good one. And I like a lot of the things Whiz brings to the table4 points

I'm surprised you don't like the move. Aside from not being able to replace Warner which may or may not be his fault, he's succeeded in the NFL at every turn. He may not get it done here but I have no issues with the hire.4 points -
Just some perspective from around other AFC South forums: Colts forum thinks it's a great hire, pretty much consensus Jags fans are saying the sky is falling because yet another divisional rival got an awesome HC, pretty much consensus Texans fans....aren't even acknowledging it yet. Also, Lions fans are collectively contemplating quitting their fandom for Whis choosing us. Can't deny it, I'm digging it more and more with every hour.4 points

Part of the reason I wasn't fully behind him as a hire is because I truthfully didn't think it would even happen. I had my favorite from the getgo (Roman), the guy that was likely supposed to be the hire (Quinn) that I warmed up to, but the foregone conclusion that Whisenhunt was going to Detroit pretty much made me think he was a non-factor the whole time. Now that it's turned out it's not the case, I'm fully behind him. He gives us the best chance to land some legitimate coordinators, has a proven history of success when he has a serviceable QB (which we will need to figure out) and he basically gave another media-favored franchise the middle finger to come be our coach. I'm on the Wiz train.4 points

Wow code. Ayers is a perfect 3-4 OLB. Brown can play the other spot. They just need to sign a couple good ILBs that shed blocks and tackle. As for the DL, Casey can play DE and slide inside on passing downs and still penetrate. Klug is a goner and I'm not sure how Morgan fits. Everyone can be replaced.4 points

I'd also point out that Whisenhunt has shown an ability to be very flexible in playcalling. In Pitt, they went 15-1 in 2004, and then won the Superbowl in 2005 -- both years Pitt lead the NFL in rush attempts. As HC in AZ and the 3 seasons with Warner as QB, they ranked #2 (twice), and #3 in pass attempts. Those are wildly different numbers. I'm very interested to see what OC he brings in. If anything, he's shown he's can play a run-attack, playaction style offense and be successful (good for Locker), but if he gets a premier QB, he can also open the game up and field a more offensive-minded team.3 points -
I think people are going to feel better if they forget about Jake Locker being shoved down Whinsenhunt's throat. If that was the case, I seriously doubt he would have even wasted an interview with the Titans during a playoff week. He's won with Warner and is coaching a stud in Rivers. He knows what caliber player it will take to win in the league. Coach W has been to the SB and he has a plan to get back to win it. He's not coming here to just make a lot of fans happy with marginal results. Maybe he will be able to succeed in Nashville, maybe not. I think what he sees here is a team with some very good pieces that needs a QB and a couple of LBs if he is going to a 3/4. A running back(two) can be added, depending on how he feels about Greene. The biggie is going to be the QB. We can compete with an average QB, but to win big they have to get/groom a top playmaker. I hope coach W can get the Titans to be competitive right away. Again, I am happy with the hire.3 points

Oh man, I feel great! This means a complete culture change at St. Baptist Sports Park. We're actually going to look at making moves to actually win football games instead of just keeping the lights on at grandpa's general store. Coaches will play the best players and hopefully develop them as well. Players will be accountable. Scouts will actually be HEARD and not just sent on the road to collect a check. We're actually going to start being ran like an NFL franchise! Now...memo to those limp dick bastards at 104.5 The Zone...there is an NFL team in town again. Get Vandy's balls out of your mouths!3 points -

Honestly, it's hard to complain about this hire. He's very experienced, was highly coveted around the league, has the NFL connections necessary to bring a competent and experienced staff, and is an offensive-minded coach who has had success in multiple places. On top of this, he likely had his choice of landing spots and felt the Titans represented the best opportunity. We interviewed a bunch of guys and didn't make some boneheaded, cheap-wad hire because we had no options left. I certainly have reservations -- I question how his offense will fit Locker (though this may be a sign they are ready to move on), his QB errors in the past, and his total team meltdown as a HC. But it's hard to know what was on him or the GM, and it's likely that Webster will have full control from a player personnel standpoint.3 points -

He only won cause he revived Kurt Warners career. He only won cause he had Big Ben. He only won cause he had a great receving corps. He only had that winning defense cause of his secondary. He only made the playoffs cause he had Phillip Rivers. Hell im digging how many times ye curmudgeons gotta say he won & made the playoffs before you try to insult him. Hell bring on the criticisms if playoffs superbowls and beast teams come with em! Cause all ive seen as a fan is 1 fuckin miracle that got cut short by a yard...2 points -
I'm curious if Whisenhunt was truly our #1 target all along. Maybe the FO didn't feel like waiting on Quinn for another 1-2 weeks and potentially losing out on Whiz in the process. Either way, gotta say I'm glad to see our FO reach out and take what they want from the teeth of the Lions. With Lovie Smith and Whisenhunt being the supposed top two coveted coaches this off season, we gotta be pretty stoked we landed him.2 points

I WANT him to sit players who don't buy in. That's what I love about BB and the Patriots. Be a part of the team and not a "me" guy. Perform or sit down.2 points

He will def sit players who don't buy in. Horton was the main reason why Whiz didn't lose the entire locker room. Whiz would fuck stuff up but the defensive players loved Horton. Part of the reason why he needs to come here. That way, when Whiz is shit canned in 4 years, Horton might have a shot finally.2 points -

I think the best pro-Wisenhunt argument is this: He took the ARIZONA CARDINALS to a Super Bowl! The Cards are probably the worst organization in NFL history and he got them that close to being the champs. Yes, he went down hill when Kurt Warner (a QB he picked out of the recycle bin) retired, but no coach was winning with the QBs he had to work with after Warner. We need a good QB no matter who we hired. At least we hired a guy who proved he can do it with the right tools.2 points -

As far as why he picked us and not the lions ...SIMPLE . ..............LOOK AT THE DIV .................... Where does he have a better shot at winning the div ,,,,A F C south or N F C north? I think he has a better shot in our div ...all we really have to do is beat colts ... Jags ,will be better but still we should of blown them out twice... Texans will be tough but also new head coach ...also big ? Colts ..they are beatable with a right coaching staff wich we should get now ... so win your div and your in ...thats the focus ...something munch could not do .....2 points -

Hopefully he's improved his clock management. There were times, and still currently do, where I wonder if he wipes his ass before he shits. I think the fact that Whiz took the Cardinals to a Super Bowl is extremely overrated. He took a team to the Super Bowl with veterans that he didn't need to develop. He took a team of players he was responsible for developing right down the shitter. He's had a hand in every single quarterback he's had post-Super Bowl and every single one of them have been first class hot garbage. Worst part about it was he would change QB's every single fucking week. Brian Hoyer one week, John Skelton another, Kevin Kolb the next. He would sit there with his shit-eating grin saying how he was just going with "whoever had the hot hand". What a crock of shit. Whiz is prone to hiring his good ol' buddies like Russ Grimm, Mike Miller (I swear to fucking God, if he comes here I'll end it all), Ray Horton (only saving grace in this hire), and more turds you've probably never heard of, nor have a reason to. Whiz isn't too different than Munch in the sense that he sticks by his guys in terms of coaches, except Whiz is much more likely to fire a coach to save his job than Munch was (thank god). My biggest gripe with Whiz is he doesn't have a track record of DEVELOPING players. He sure as shit didn't do it in Arizona, he didn't need to do it in San Diego, and I highly fucking doubt he's going to do it in Nashville. God help us all. I'm hoping he can win and if he does I'll come eat my own shit, or crow, or whatever.2 points -
John McClain was just on 104.5 speculating how Webster must be commended (and he'd love to hear the full story) of landing him given he'd heard it was all but a done deal he was going to Detroit. Said we must have done a phenomenal pitch and he was a much bigger priority than most people realized.2 points

Whisenhunt played under Gibbs for a year, coached under Cowher and won superbowl, coached the Cardinals in a Super Bowl, and reinvigorated Rivers career this season. He's coached Roethlisberger and Warner. He was by far the most qualified coach looking for a HC job. He deserves to be questioned for Kolb but other than that his resume is littered with success.2 points

I remember reading Brown is a perfect ILB for a 3-4, though maybe a bit small. He's a good blitzer & the ILBs in a 3-4 are more pursuit types. As far as Morgan I know Rex Ryan has always used very large guys as OLBs, basically 4-3 DE types like Calvin Pace & Quinton Coples. It helps with the run for sure. But there's all different types of 3-4s. Perhaps Fat Tom & Whiz can pick up Mr. Phillips while they're in Houston & bring his ass over here to get working on this 3-41 point
-
Truth be told, Whisenhunt would have been my second choice. He's still that for me though: second choice. Here's to hoping that the Webster - Whisenhunt tandem is successful.1 point
-
My concern is that Whisenhunt was the second option. If he was the number one option, I'm certainly alright with that. I would have preferred for them to be patient if they felt like Quinn was the better option, but we will never know. The one positive is that Whisenhunt is going to bring an experienced staff. There will be no concerns about the competency of coaching.1 point
