  1. Steelers defense wasn't very good this year
  2. FWIW, Oregon HC worked with new TB OC Dirk Koetter for seven seasons. Sure they've talked or will talk a lot about Mariota.
  3. OAK might be the only team in the league with more holes on their roster than ours. I really don't see how they can afford to make a huge trade up like that. I think more likely they're going to try to trade down. If they stay at their spot, I think it'll be Cooper or one of the OT.
  4. Eli and Archie were terrified of AJ Smith and how the SD organization was being run (can't blame em). I don't really care about what Williams said.
  5. I see no way the Raiders do that. They might be the only team in the league with more holes than us.
  6. I agree we need a premium piece on defense, which is why I'm reluctant to trade down unless it's a monster offer. Both Gregory and Williams are fear factor players opposing OC need to gameplan for. You saw that in the Holiday Bowl. USC was repeatedly running plays away from Gregory's side. Williams was getting double teamed frequently. Even triple teamed at times. Does a premium piece singlehandedly transform a defense? No. Even Watt hasn't done that. But it's a starting point. I get that we need quantity. We need both quality and quantity. But if I had to choose one or the other, I go quality. I want an elite playmaker. No guarantee Williams or Gregory become that, but I like their chances. We're a faceless team. We need some superstars. Marcus Peters might be the best CB with the best shutdown CB potential in this draft. He's also a Huskie. The character issues will have to be looked at extensively. But if this guy fell to round 3, I'd give it strong consideration to take a gamble. If you play with fire too much, you're going to get burned eventually. But I think we 've been playing it too safe as of late and that's gotten us nowhere obviously. That doesn't mean we start taking major risk after major risk. But I think I'd be willing to take a calculated gamble on a guy like Peters if he's there. Another option would be Josh Gordon. I mentioned in another thread. If the Browns are moving on from him, and it sounds like that could be the case, I'd be interested. It's a gamble. The guy is Britt like in terms of idiocy. But there's not another WR that will be available in FA or the draft that's as gifted as him. Not even Cooper. Would I trade a 3rd to gamble on Gordon? I think I'd strongly consider it. He's a true #1 WR. And if we offer a 3 (which would be a very high 3), I think our chances of getting him are fairly high. I don't see anyone offering a 2 and our 3 would beat out just about everyone else (can't remember if we pick 1st in round 3)
  7. Gordon would be the best WR in this draft if he was coming out. Still only 23. He might be the only true #1 WR talent in FA. Cobb and Maclin aren't those guys imo. Neither are Bowe and Crabtree. And Dez and Demaryius will be resigned/tagged. Despite the baggage, I think we definitely should take a look at Gordon. He'd be the best WR talent out there.
  8. A lot of baggage, but a lot of talent. Definite feeling after #Browns GM Ray Farmer's presser that Josh Gordon won't be back. May take 5 min. into their staff meetings next week. — Tony Grossi (@TonyGrossi) December 30, 2014
  9. I like Cooper, but he's not a freak like Calvin, Julio, AJ Green. If we're spending a top 5 pick on a WR, I'd want a guy like that. I think Cooper is another tier down and closer to guys like Blackmon and Crabtree when they were coming out
  10. No to Iupati. No more overpaid G. He's dealt with a lot of injuries this season
  11. The track record of QB drafted in the 1st round has been pretty bad over the past decade. Most are either busts or ok
  12. Webster's going to be in attendance at the Rose Bowl. I agree with Merc, I wouldn't totally rule these guys out whether it's a good thing or not
  13. It was Marty Schottenheimer. He was fired after the Chargers went 14-2 in 2006. There was a power struggle between him and AJ Smith. Smith is a giant egomaniac. He and Marty clashed a lot. Perception was that AJ Smith wanted a puppet HC, and that's why Norv Turner was hired
  14. It's what happens when egos and hurt feelings get involved. There were reports before the draft that Harbaugh and Baalke were only communicating by text. Wouldn't even look at each other.
  15. I mentioned Bowman and Wills before. I don't know SF cap situation, but they've got a lot of notable FA coming up within the next year or two. And with the play of Chris Borland, maybe one of these guys becomes expendable. I'd think Bowman would be more likely with that injury. Willis is the face of the franchise. I definitely think Ahmad Brooks will be cut
  16. Not opposed to that at all, but what do we do at OLB then if these are our first two picks?
  17. Agreed. I've seen several USC games and his motor is not an issue. He is a little slow off the snap, but that's not a motor issue
  18. The gamebreaking playmakers are what separates the great from the good imo. It's why teams like SEA (Wilson, Sherman, Thomas) and DEN (Peyton, Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas) are at the top and why teams like MIA and SD have toiled away in mediocrity. We need blue chip impact players.
  19. I agree. I don't think there are many blue chip prospects in this draft. Maybe 3 or 4 tops and that might be a little generous
  20. The bucs gm will be at the rose bowl game fwiw. Obviously to scout both qb
  21. I'm on their MB. Full fledged meltdown. Guess I can't blame them. They want em all gone, including Ryan and Dmitrioff.
