I've been very hard on the players this season but they found a way to win today. This is who we can be when we execute. It wasn't pretty and we needed some help but today was a tale of two teams. We all got to see what it looks like when the players don't execute and when they do. This is who we need to be for the rest of the season so that Cam can grow. Congrats fellas.

I actually think the Titans likely take Tate even if Love was on the board. Analytically taking a WR helps Ward way more than a RB. Plus the value in terms of roster construction. Love is the going to be the highest paid RB in the league(or close). Tate is great value in terms of what he's paid vs the highest paid X WRs around the league. I did not want a RB at 4 the closer the draft got. Tate seems like a very safe pick. His floor is a very solid boundary WR. High character with a good work ethic. He has a really high ceiling. He doesn't have the hype of guys like Marvin Harrison Jr but he easily could be better. You can hate John Robinson but he said scouting WRs the most basic need is get open and catch the ball. Tate is exceptional at getting open and catching the ball. The two main things a WR needs to do. Faulk is a massive human who can move around. I doubt he's ever a great edge rusher but he could be another Autry or John Franklin Myers. Another safe pick. He's likely going to be a good pro. The Titans two picks remind me of something the Ravens would do. Nothing flashy but they end up with really good players. Smart picks who fit needs.

Well done to PK he has been all over the Sweat saga and was consistently telling everyone he was going to be traded. Also a rough day for Zach Lyons won't be able to give his weekly lecture about how Sweat is a great fit for a Saleh defense.

My thoughts. I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight. I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes. I studied what I could with available data on each with particular emphasis on those elements that Borgonzi identified as his criteria. This also included the offensive schemes and philosophies with each as HC or OC. McDaniel has captured my interest with being the architect of a very, very impressive offensive scheme. It seems to be an accommodation of the best various directions for developing and maximizing Ward's skill levels. Very impressive for the future of this team. The other side of the selection process are the attributes that Borgonzi has identified he wants in the next head coach. Team identity. Player and coach accountability. Ward's development. Strong OC and DC. There are others that I won't describe here. I really am not sure that this FO and specifically Borgo see all of these attributes in McDaniels. McDaniels would, IMO, have to adapt his quirky personality to what this FO and this owner would want . It is unknown to me whether this quirkiness would be a breaker, or whether McDaniels would be willing to be more "professional". I hope that McDaniel becomes our HC. It would be fun for a change. It would also lead to an exciting and successful future. pro

Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out. This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season. Callahan was hired to call plays and keep continuity for the QB. Without the playcalling duties he's a lame duck. They probably want him away from Ward(play calling) the rest of the season before they fire. This is an in season termination.

They need to put "Titans report cared when he passed" on his headstone. Most people wont get it but thats a scary level of praise.

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

During the flame-out Vrabel 2023 season, I once found myself at Neighbors Germantown with Zach Piller and Jevon Kearse for a long coversation. (They were UF teammates and in the same '99 draft class.) The big things I took from that night in the midst of that miserable season were that its nearly impossible to change a system once you're in the season. There just isn't enough time each week. And also that Keith Carter and Vrabel together destroyed our o-line fundamentals over time.

Listening to the Callahan radio show and Taylor Zarzour mentioned Cam Ward sat next to Brian Callahan during the entire duration of the flight home from Denver and they were deep in discussion reviewing the game.

TLDR version: Hit on QB at #3 overall, play the weakest regular season schedule in 30 years, and the weakest playoff schedule of all time.

Not overly surprising reading Albert Breer's week 5 takeaways column to see him mention from his post game chat with Callahan that midweek Callahan invited the captains for an airing of grievances session. Tennessee Titans Sunday was a great example of how people angry with how their football team is playing have clouded judgment—primarily in what we saw in Arizona. There are a lot of dumb stories this time of year about needing to fire this person or that person. And I’m not saying that everyone should’ve simply given Titans coach Brian Callahan and his staff a pass for a pretty listless start to their second season in Nashville. But I also didn’t understand the need to extract their pound of flesh now. It’s not even Columbus Day yet. Firing someone in October, in most cases, only means killing hope for having a real football season for your team, and getting a few marginal advantages in starting a coaching search extra early. The temperature on all that has been turned up into triple-digits in Nashville, and only got hotter Sunday as the Titans fell behind 21–3 early against the middling Cardinals. But then, a funny thing happened. A couple of things broke right for a young team still learning to play together, the rookie quarterback got hot and, by now, you know the rest of that story—Tennessee rallied for a thrilling 22–21 win behind No. 1 pick Cam Ward. But what you may not know about is all the honest conversations that took place behind closed doors last week that helped set the stage for it. On Wednesday, with talk on his job status ramping up, Callahan called in captains Calvin Ridley, Tony Pollard, Jeffery Simmons, Amani Hooker, Cody Barton and Morgan Cox for an extended conversation on the state of the team. He let them air grievances and look for deeper investment in what the Titans are doing. He also took personal responsibility for a team that was playing competitively, but lapsing too often and allowing games to slip away. “We all had to do better—of coaching, of playing,” Callahan told me postgame. “It’s everybody. I have to do better. Our best players have to make plays. It doesn’t have to be perfect. We aren’t looking for perfection. We are looking for precision. I think the precision part of it is critical.” At the same time, Callahan reiterated what he said to me Sunday: “I love our team.” He knew the players were doing things the right way and that it would take time. Having that patience, amid all the noise around him, was key Sunday. Even with the team down 21–6 in Arizona, after taking a 26–0 shellacking last week against the Texans, that was clear. “I saw the look in our eyes,” Callahan said. “We didn’t flinch—never flinched, kept pushing. That mentality has sunk in. It’s, No panic, no press. We played together, trusting each other. We stole a little bit of the thunder with blind trust. You have to trust the guys to do their job next to you. I think I saw that today through the course of four quarters. They finally realized what it could look like if you do those things.” And so the comeback came. First with an 80-yard drive, then with Tyler Lockett recovering a fumbled interception for a touchdown, and then with a 38-yard dime to Calvin Ridley to set up Joey Slye’s game-winning, 29-yard field goal. All that went down in the fourth quarter. So with it went the goose egg in the Titans’ win column and comments Ward made last week about the state of the team (“We ass”). For what it’s worth, Callahan did discuss the sound bite with Ward, telling him he appreciated his will to win, but he should be cognizant of how his comments might affect other people, and that he could polish what he says a bit. Ward, for his part, felt like the remarks did serve their purpose. “I just think we needed that. We needed it known how we weren’t complementing each other on both sides of the ball,” Ward told me. “We weren’t playing our best. The biggest thing is that the guys in the locker room respected it. They know how I feel, we weren’t on our P’s and Q’s on offense.
