    GOP thread

Republican politicians and associated committees are sending out desperate fundraising emails begging the GOP faithful to help save America by getting behind Herschel Walker in his Dec. 6 runoff race against Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock. "We need everyone focused on winning the Georgia Senate race, and deceptive fundraising tactics by teams that just won their races are siphoning money away from Georgia,” Walker campaign manager Scott Paradise told NBC News on Monday. The campaign said it first noticed the problem on Saturday when former President Donald Trump’s Save America sent out an email that asked prospective donors to “contribute ANY AMOUNT IMMEDIATELY to the Official Georgia Runoff Fundraising Goal and increase your impact by 1200%” But if donors didn’t see a link that says “click here for details or to edit allocation,” they would not have noticed that 90 percent of their contribution automatically went to Trump, with the remaining 10 percent going to Walker. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/walker-s-campaign-tells-republicans-to-stop-deceptive-fundraising-in-georgia-runoff/ar-AA146FQo?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=837989807ebd4a43a81aec797bda6c4a 0

  2. There will be a response but it wont be that for 2 stray missiles unless it's proven to have been on purpose. A no-fly zone means you'll potentially have to shoot down Russian aircraft which would be in direct conflict w/ Russia. Ukrainians are winning this war. We don't need to escalate things.

  14. I mean there should definitely be a response. I would rather it be directly from Poland and not Nato. Doing a no-fly zone over this is way too much of a response. If the US gets directly involved it likely has the repercussion of letting a weakened Putin re-entrench his power.

Don Bacon (R-NE) told NBC News on that if the GOP Conference can’t agree to elect Kevin McCarthy or any other Republican as speaker on the House floor, then he would be willing to work with Democrats to elect a moderate Republican for the top post. Said Bacon: “I will support Kevin McCarthy, but if we do get to that point, I do want the country to work and we need to govern. We can’t sit neutral; we can’t have total gridlock for two years.”

  16. The only play left for Putin is to cause suffering en masse to the Ukrainians to position for a negotiated settlement. With what the Ukrainians have endured (likely more horror stories in recently liberated lands) I just don't see a lot of concessions coming from them as they press their military advantage. No one is even talking about Putin's nuclear threats anymore, and the now-ended conscription bought Russia time, but not a victory. It's gtfo time, and I don't see Putin remaining in power by the end of 2024 after this fiasco is fully digested domestically.

  21. Exactly, I agree there should be some sort of a response but they need to make sure this was deliberate first What is really getting to me is the glee some are having with all of this. It’s not a reality TV show, these are real people I feel Americans in particular are guilty of this because all of it happens so far from their shores and there’s a military culture. I find this all absolutely horrific

Perplexing situation. I have a new friend. Really nice guy, mild mannered and especially nice to others. He's gay. We were talking and he said, "you know Nancy Pelosi's husband and the hammer man were in their underwear. The police won't release the body cam footage." I showed his how his sources lacked credibility. I also explained to him that Tucker Carlson is an editorialist, not a news reporter. I talked to him about the R's views toward the LBGTQ community asking his opinions. Lots of other things, but nothing about R racism tactics. The last thing I sent him was that plain talking country guy who just lays it out plain, simple. Rejected. I doubt he even watched it. He just spouted out counters. Why? There's a huge number of R's who believe lies. Huge lies. Lies where the truth has exposed the lie, but they are already to the second or third new lie. Stolen election after R have verified the truth. They persist in believing the lie. They attack white civil service workers, real nasty. I think they are all just liars. They have another reason to be willing to give up their power to participate in elections. The only reason I feel he would do this is because he's embarrassed to tell me why he supports people who would beat him with a baseball bat if he marched in a gay pride parade. sad

  35. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/senate-vote-codify-same-sex-marriage_n_6372a027e4b0ca9acf2790c9 The Senate is expected to vote this week on legislation to codify same-sex marriage and, more importantly, the bill has enough GOP support to pass, HuffPost has learned. “We have the votes,” a source close to negotiations confirmed Monday. A bipartisan group of senators has been trying for months to pass a marriage equality bill to protect same-sex and interracial relationships. The House passed its own legislation in July, but that proposal stalled in the Senate, where some Republicans raised concerns that it would stifle religious liberty. Things got more complicated when, around the same time, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced a surprise deal on a massive tax and climate change bill. Republicans were so mad that Democrats were ready to pass that deal without them that some signaled they would pull their support for a forthcoming same-sex marriage bill. But with the midterm elections over and Democrats in position to hold the Senate for another two years, it looks like some Republicans are coming back to the table.

  36. Actually he has done a lot more than that, it’s just often less visible. He is actively driving off advertisers (which could be seen as intentionally cutting revenue). He has laid off half the employees (many illegally, at least in California) and has eliminated 80% of the contractors, which is frankly below an operational level. He tried to push off legal obligations (liability for new features) to upper level employees who then quit because they refused to be liable. He might have violated an FTC consent agreement as well as other federal regulations dealing with data integrity. At best he is an incompetent CEO. At worst he’s trying to damage the company. It’s just very hard to tell which it is at this point.

It's a very expensive way to do business but it can be faster. Let's say Lockheed Martin wants to change the paint they use for the f35 b/c they think it'll help their stealth capabilities but it'll change the surface roughness of the wings and they're not sure what that'll do to the aerodynamics. LM would then go through weeks or months of design selection to see if it's worth the risk. Then they'd go through weeks or months of CFD testing to see what they can expect. After that they'd schedule wind tunnel time to see if what actually happens in the wind tunnel matches their expectations. Then they'll paint an f35 and run test flights w/ the new configuration. And by then there better not be any real surprises or someone fucked up. Elon would just buy/build an F35 and paint the wing and fly it... probably crash some F35s in the process.. may or may not kill some pilots. Then he'd do it again until he found something that works. Thankfully he's not in the F35 business. At SpaceX, he can blow up all the rockets in the desert or crash them into the ocean all he wants and no one really gives a shit. Kill some pilots or fuck up a company like Eli Lily's profit margins and people pay attention.

  41. Americans will be allowed to contribute more of their money to 401(k) and similar retirement saving plans next year. The IRS said Friday that the maximum contribution that an individual can make in 2023 to a 401(k), 403(b) and most 457 plans will be $22,500. That's up from $20,500 this year. A 2k jump in one year is pretty unheard of, it usually goes up 500 for the year and often stays the same
