Popular Post OILERMAN
I actually think the Titans likely take Tate even if Love was on the board. Analytically taking a WR helps Ward way more than a RB. Plus the value in terms of roster construction. Love is the going to be the highest paid RB in the league(or close). Tate is great value in terms of what he's paid vs the highest paid X WRs around the league. I did not want a RB at 4 the closer the draft got. Tate seems like a very safe pick. His floor is a very solid boundary WR. High character with a good work ethic. He has a really high ceiling. He doesn't have the hype of guys like Marvin Harrison Jr but he easily could be better. You can hate John Robinson but he said scouting WRs the most basic need is get open and catch the ball. Tate is exceptional at getting open and catching the ball. The two main things a WR needs to do. Faulk is a massive human who can move around. I doubt he's ever a great edge rusher but he could be another Autry or John Franklin Myers. Another safe pick. He's likely going to be a good pro. The Titans two picks remind me of something the Ravens would do. Nothing flashy but they end up with really good players. Smart picks who fit needs. EC34
No disagreement. Just maybe a different light. - Turns out Borgo is a positional value guy ... WR1 and Edge1 (wishful). Could suggest next season is LT/CB1. - My read on Tate is worst case Tee Higgins, best case J'Marr Chase -- certainly a high floor guy - maybe limited ceiling - more Higgins than Chase. If he had run a 4.49, he would have been a no-brainer. Amazing what .04 can do to perceived value. - My read on Faulk is far more boom bust (not film study, just having read and listened to a whole lot of overthink analysis). - I think both guys are immediately in the rotation and neither guy has the world pinned to their back in that they are now both in deep position groups. If both guys hit, then no one remembers the fourth rounder we lost in the trade. DCTitan
OzTitan
The class was what it was. Not ideal taking a non generational WR at 4 but what great prospect did they pass on to do it? Reese had plenty of questions. Trading down is always great in theory but needs a partner in the right range. And the Browns may have taken Tate shortly after anyway. freakingeek

Popular Post titanruss
I dont know if the plan was to go Tate all along but I do think that the Cards picking Love made it an easy choice that protected our FO from itself re: Love. I do believe we tried to trade back and it didnt work. I dont think either Reece or Styles were nearly the pro-ready prospects that Tate was and had their own other issues (scheme fit, production, positional need, etc) Tate is the guy we could get that helps Cam the most Day 1. He's a perfect scheme fit and a perfect hole fit. Cam hasnt had a guy that can work the boundaries and get up and over DBs if needed nor a true deep threat in a couple years. Tate comes in being one of the best route runners on the team and he has the hands we needed last year. He fits the aggressive downfield shot O Cam wants to run and the routes that Daboll uses. He's a big Ridley with great hands and jump ball ability. Faulk is a perfect size/length athletic profile for Salehs D. I like we went to go get him. He is already a great run defender and is only 20. He can play inside and out. He's not a natural pass rusher but is young enough and has the tools enough that he can develop into one just as well as anyone else. We can plug that with a DPR in the mean time. Both of these picks were excellent fits, and needs. They followed positional value and fit the size requirements. Both are young coming in and filled the hardest holes to fill early on in this draft. NashvilleNinja
The thing with Tate is his floor is as solid as you get in this class, but his ceiling has the potential to be higher than expected. None of these guys are finished products. They have room to grow, and the Titans hired a good one in Greg Lewis to help the receivers grow their game. Faulk was an early possibility just because of his size alone but a number of us thought they'd be looking for a smaller, faster wide 9 rusher after hiring Saleh. Turns out he likes em big too. Really excited to watch him wreck OL's shit this year next to Simmons and JFM. I didn't like giving up 101 at all. Hate it, actually. I think the Bills should have had to swap their 4th. But it is what it is. Hopefully they can make a trade or two and recoup a fourth somehow. OILERMAN, AvgJoe, and BeedoeLaw
Justafan
Two very young players at premium positions. Two huge needs on both sides of the ball. Two guys that the FO seems pretty adamant are very good scheme fits. No secret that I thought Tate was a reach at #4 but given the way the board fell and Borgonzi's success with Ayo and Dike last year, I'm all for it. You got a big X WR who played at Ohio State against top competition, nailed the analytics, and clearly has talent to get open and hands to catch the ball. When is the last time you felt this much enthusiasm for the WR room? 2019? Borgonzi was pretty dismissive of the idea that they HAD to have a speed rusher at the post presser. Talked about these guys (Dline) coming in waves and being able to move them around and that some of the guys will line up outside, despite not being true speed rushers. Sounds like they prioritized motor as much or more than bend, a strategy we haven't really seen here since the days of Washburn as most of us got used to guys like Landry getting 90% of snaps at OLB/edge. That's not Saleh's style and they seem pretty convinced that he's a really strong fit for the scheme. With JFM and Simmons in the middle, I think they'll get plenty of opportunties and I'm starting to think this line may have a higher ceiling than many expect. Super excited to see these two guys get to work. For the rest of the draft, they absolutely MUST shore up the Oline. I think Zeitler comes back but they should draft a Center and a Guard to develop. Would love for them to get a rangy coverage LB to pair with Gray behind this stout DLine and let Saleh do his thing. Another CB seems prudent and possibly another TE, RB, S as well. There is plenty of room for subpackage guys and depth players to improve this roster. chef, OILERMAN, and titanruss

I just believed Love was their guy. Edited April 24 by TheBukafax ctm
Legaltitan
I like this regime because for the first time in a long time we target players and we go get them. We don't fuck around, wait for runs to start and then get a guy, make panic pics, unnecessary trades, etc. The guys set their board, feel confident, and go out and make it happen. That should be the expectation, but we suffered many years here where that didn't happen. These guys will either work or they won't, but you can be damn sure that the guys we drafted were drafted because they loved them and fit perfectly within their plans. Last year's draft felt the same. We doubted Dike and others and it has played out pretty well IMO SleepingTitan, chef, and Pragidealist

But I also think they knew he wouldn't make it to 4 and zeroed in on Tate. Pragidealist
