nine
They obviously need to be more balanced on first down. It kinda speaks for itself. I'd also like to see Henry given more of a presence on third downs....especially 3rd & 5 or less. I'm not even talking about getting him the ball in those situations; just having him on the field forces the defense to account for him, thus making their job harder. This year, Tannehill's 3rd down passer rating (86.2) was significantly lower than other downs. Of course, this wasn't just because Henry wasn't out there.....but taking him off the field definitely makes the defense's job easier. My guess is that situationally, this exposed the LT issue. I also know that 3rd down efficiency dropped for a while after Humphries went out.

Almost comically so. The Titans run the ball and run the ball on 1st down at a level you just don't see in the NFL. Warren Sharpe predicted the Titans would flop because of it. He was wrong about them flopping but he wasn't wrong overall, but more about that in a second. There were times this season when I knew it was a losing formula but they overcame it or won doing it. Today the way the KC defense was playing I really think the Titans could have taken control by going for the kill and staying aggressive. They would have at least made it a better game. Here is what should scare us. This conservative strategy got the Titans to the AFC title game because the redzone offense, running game and efficiency were at an unsustainable historic level. Not only is it impossible to duplicate this but Vrabel seems to think it's the way to go. Th running game and redzone offense will likely not be this great again. If Vrabel doesn't adapt then they'll never advance this far again. Thrill, pat, titanruss, and 6 others 6 1

Edit: What actually has been true, is that when we require RT to THROW MORE (which is what you were advocating for with this post) we LOSE MORE. DH had an historic run after you posted this. I'm surprised you revived the thread. RT's decline began with DH's but has been blamed on literally everything except RT. IsntLifeFunny
Tannehill's decline happened when we went from a team with an assortment of weapons, prime Henry, and at least adequate pass blocking that allowed the team to dictate to the opponent. We've had staggeringly bad pass blocking for going on 3 years and now the cupboard is bone dry and Henry is a step slower behind a line that isn't nearly as dominant in run blocking. Add on the injuries and voila.

Popular Post Justafan
The hope was that Vrabel was scheming around his talent and that he would evolve as the talent evolved. In reality, that talent was covering up for the fact that he wasn't anything special as a HC. Now, he has a good reputation built on the backs of guys like Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry, and Arthur Smith - a lucky hire of a guy who happened to be a holdover from the previous staff. It's all unraveling now that QC completely failed to hold on to that talent, and the Titans can no longer beat up on a pathetic AFC South. rns90
He's also arrogant as hell which doesn't help and micromanages as well. This can be covered up if you have the players. He doesn't now and is being exposed. AvgJoe

scine09
I'll preface this by saying I do not expect Vrabel to be fired. But if they were to move I would think it would be a desirable destination with a young QB that's shown promise, a ton of cap space and the new stadium coming up.
