Like, if you're Borgonzi you see up close all the success he's had with Mahomes, then turning Trubisky of all people into a winning QB, you see him work up close successfully for years, and then you're like "Nah, I'm not going to hire that guy because I know him too well"? Wouldn't that make him kind of an idiot? 

 

Out of all the retreads I've seen as options, the only ones with winning records overall are Nagy and McCarthy. 

 

Saleh, Stefanski, Spagnuolo, Kingsbury have losing records. Obviously different circumstances and this that and the other though. 

He was with Mahomes for what 1 season? Mahomes was already Mahomes when Nagy came back. I don't see how you can give Nagy much credit if any. 

 

Chicago defense was a big reason Trubsiky and Nagy were winners in Chicago. Trubisky was meh. The Bears and league obviously didn't view him as a winning QB since he was replaced by Justin Fields and had to go be a back up. Nagy's situational play calling and game manegement was heavily critized in Chicago.

 

There aren't any sexy hires this offseason. I would prefer Saleh, Stefanski and McCarthy over Nagy. I wonder how many other teams will interview Nagy. That will tell you if he is getting an interview because of the connection to Borgonzi or if he is actually viewed as a HC candidate by the league.

Not really haha, he's still educated guessing. He does know more than I do of course but he's not Adam Schefter or anything.

Agreed that Nagy's situational play calling and game management were rightfully criticized in Chicago (which is why I was relieved to know he isn't going to call plays as HC this time around, definitely not his strong suit). I do think he should get some credit for retaining Fangio in Chicago though, who only left bc he got a HC gig in Denver. McDaniel chose to fire Fangio in Miami and then he went on to succeed in Philly. 

 

Some teams may not bother interviewing Nagy at all if they think he'll get the Titans gig. He did interview with the Jets last offseason. I also don't think he'll fit the profile of what most teams are wanting in an offensive HC (young, hot shot play calling extraordinaire)

The leverage we have over Texas is an actual structure to the league over this silly nonsense going on in college. Lot of coaches careers are at risk in the longer term with college sports being wholly ungovernable now
