FWIW Sweat was 39 on Brugler's draft board before the DUI and then dropped to 120 or something like that.  For teams that were interested and vetted him after the incident, he went right around where he should have.

That probably heavily impacts where the Titans scored on consensus big boards. That actually makes me feel a lot better about the pick. Good nugget.

The biggest bright spot last night was Sweat's play.    6 tackles, 2 more loss and constantly disrupting the Miami blocking schemes. He did this without Simmons as well. He played 78% of the

Titans HAD to upgrade their Dline. Newton, Fiske, and Jenkins were all guys who played the same role as Simmons. I like those guys but I've told people all offseason that the Titans weren't going to d

As long as they can keep Sweat away from Davenport he's got a chance!

Nice emoji @Titan8425 do you actually have a rebuttal for my point about Simmons not being able to fix Tart or are you just gonna scamper away pretending you have one?

I'm trying to drop the discussion since it doesn't matter, but I don't think Sweat and Tart are comparable.  I'll leave it at that and we can agree to disagree.

Well, when you use that emoji as if what the other person said is laughable, it certainly doesn't come off like you're trying to drop the discussion but rather that you're being snarky while avoiding the point that was made, I'll let it go though.

Might've been posted but...

"I promise that in everything we do, we're well researched. What people don't see is the text messages and calls you get from teams after you take 'their guy' and how many texts and calls were 'We were taking him with our next pick' or 'Great pick,'" Carthon said in regards to selecting Sweat 38th overall.

"I had earmarked on the board of 'This is the furthest we could go back and still get a guy of this caliber.' And even with that, one of the teams that I earmarked that we could go below to get him texted and said after the draft 'We would have taken him if he was there.' So we would have missed out."

No one I’ve heard who covers the team thinks Simmons is as good of a leader right now as the team has had in previous years.

the team needs new leaders to emerge in the post Byard and Henry eras.

Really? I feel like I’ve only heard the opposite.

That's a terrible comp. It makes no sense at all.

I thought so too. The rest of my post was unrelated to that point. Maybe he's just trying to say a DT who actually has pass rush upside? IDK...that's the only similarity I can see, but it's pretty weak. However, I do think Sweat's pass rush ability is being underrated.

I kind of wonder how much of the negatives on him (aside from the DUI, of course) is just his size. Like I see a lot of people saying "will struggle because of his size" but umm...in college, he doesn't really. Yes, the NFL is different, but they'll also drop him about 15 lbs. So...

The more I learn about Sweat the more I like him.

There is some impressive tape.

He's getting well beyond the amount of snaps I thought he possibly would in College Football. He grades well across the board, not just as a run stopper.

He has a brother in the NFL, who is successful without any incidents and isn't a problem--this bodes well for him getting it together in the NFL.

Not singling you out here, but I see posts like this and they drive me nuts. What front office has Dane Brugler, Mel Kiper, or Matt Miller ever ran? What draft picks have they ever made? They do their homework, but they’ve never done the job. Don’t take what they say as gospel, sometimes they have their own agendas.

For some reason, some would rather trust the talking heads than the scouts and GM’s that live and breathe this stuff. Not saying Ran is always right, he’s going to miss and take players he shouldn’t. But to put stock into all that the talking heads say and that makes you “come around” on a pick is crazy to me.

Buck, Joe, and PK we’re saying this the other day. Who has said the opposite?

Not sure those 3 would know what goes on inside the locker room.  I'd also point out that things crashed and burned while Byard and Henry were around too....

I get your point but the context is important - he was a consensus 2nd rounder until the DUI and then a ton of people slid him down to a 4th or 5th rounder.

But yeah - there's an element of scheme and culture fit that is team centric and beyond the draft media enterprise.

I think they would know more than random fans with no behind the scenes access.
