Steve Smith, who I thought was just a crazy meathead, actually has thoughtful takes....especially when it comes to WRs

His WR YT show is a fun watch from time to time.

Did we really draft Tate or does Jamal need to see him in a jersey first

Long story short, he is an analytical dream. Absoluty elite in   catch rate   contested catch rate   drop rate   yards per route run against both zone and man

"Even if you liked Avrell Reese inside that defense, there's a debate of 'are we better as an institution giving our quarterback, Cam Ward, our best player someone to help him than drafting the edge rusher".

This guy gets it. Developing Cam is what matters most to this franchise and Tate was the best player on the board to accomplish that. Getting Faulk on the back end is chef's kiss. Now fix the OL. Trade Levis and get them back in range for one of those guards.

They passed on Reese which tells me they didn't like something about his game. Maybe they felt like 90 pass rush attempts wasn't enough to gauge his transition to the NFL? Who knows. just like @AvgJoe said last night, I think Bailey was the top target if the stars aligned and he fell to #4. I think Tate was their target all along knowing Bailey wouldn't make it to #4.

I live in Columbus. IDK why some of you are sleeping on Tate, but he's legit. What a lot of people don't realize is that Sayin is a mid QB. He underthrows a lot, and Tate was constantly adjusting to those passes. So he looks like he's not getting separation. But if you look at the tape and watch the actual games, the guy was always open. Sayin didn't do him any favors, but he always adjusted to the ball and used his ELITE body control to come down with the catch. This guy has a floor that is above most WRs ceilings, and at the very least he will give Cam a super safe option. That's why people compare him to Cooper Kupp. It's not a bad comp, actually, because Tate doesn't have elite speed, but he does have elite route running, catching ability, and body control. It's a fantastic pick for this offense and Cam Ward will look much better once Tate is on the field.

That was my main takeaway watching the highlights. All the balls were late or under thrown. Then when they showed the highlights with Will Howard, he’s catching passes in stride and getting YAC.

I still don't understand him having Omar Cooper as #12 on his pre-draft ranking. Crazy.

But yeah, he generally knows his shit when it comes ot WRs. I mean, he should, right?

Watching back through his stuff, he really excels on broken plays. Always works to find open spaces, works back towards the QB, and excels along the sidelines when the QB breaks out of the pocket.

Must be a key trait for guys like him and Slowstepo.

You never know, some guys can play but can’t articulate a point to save their life.

I should also have mentioned that Tate can block too. Check this video at about 7:50 to see the analysis:

I wish I didn't watch this because it just reinforces my original observation that defenses didn't even pretend to cover him on most catches.  It's not possible to project his success based on anything shown here.

Everyone should watch this. Sure sounds like the Tate was the Titans target the entire time to me. Even if Love would have been there,

I have faith Borgonzi isn't dumb enough to take a RB top 5. Love is now the highest paid RB in the NFL and the cards are in for 50M with him

Steve Palazzolo and Sam Monson loved Tate at 4

Their reaction seems the most level headed/fair of all these shows that I've seen so far.

I haven't seen anything from him yet but I have to assume Mcshay will like the Titans night as well.

The NFLSE guys weren't as kind lol
