Callahan directly lost the game

The Titans are in a very tough spot.  Yes, I know it's one game but their coach showed incompetence that I didn't think was possible among NFL head coaches.  I can't imagine that Brinker and Borgonzi are overly thrilled with what transpired yesterday.  They have to tread lightly because you don't want to upset Ward's development but if Callahan doesn't know the rules and can't function situationally I don't know that they can keep him much longer.  It's setting the team back if he doesn't have the fundamental makeup to do this.  They have a stadium opening in two years.  Now is the time to make a decision.  Not week ten in 2026.

I think they're more concerned that Callahan is going to interfere with Cam's development if he isn't fired.  

 

His path to development was clear - reign in his gunslinging mentality so he takes fewer unnecessary risks.  But Ward is going to feel like he has to make plays due to his boss's incompetence and inability to draw up a successful one on his own.  Not to mention the probability of becoming rattled and bailing from the pocket due to the constant pressure.

I just don't believe this is as true as people think it is. Let's say your tackle has slow feet the ball and a rusher is getting by him so he holds him and gets a flag. Is that because the coach doesn't instill discipline or is it because the tackle executed poorly? Let's say your DB gets cooked at the LOS and is in full on panic mode chasing the receiver . The DB has no idea where the ball is which leads him to running into the receiver before the ball gets there, drawing a PI. Did the PI happen because the DB was coached poorly or is that an execution error? Things like illegal formation etc, I can see being ascribed to the coaches but I think people make way too much of stuff like this.

I watched that shit yesterday and was thinking that it was almost like Cally schemed up the whole game, then ran those plays in order the whole game, not taking into account where they were on the field or anything. lol  Instead of just scheming the first drive or two, like coaches usually do.  It was wild.

Edit: Officiating is not the sole reason we lost this game, but it played a part.

 

Officiating was awful but the Titans fed into it by playing overly reckless.

Even on the Ayomanor elbow catch it looks like moss was doing more then Brownlee on all his calls... aside from the wicked helmet tackle.

 

They were even finishing gang tackles in the same vein Simmons did earlier in the game and nothing came from it.  Doesn't excuse Simmons but it did seem pretty obvious that the Titans were the "bad guys" in the refs eyes.

 

I'll give it more then week 1 against a top defense and such a hostile/difficult environment but that game was definitely a hard watch.  I guess the silver lining for me is that all things considered the team grinded it out and kept things within reach....and that Cam looks to be 100% legit.

There was weeks last year when the fan base said Dennard Wilson was a fraud. Who will be the target of the outrage machine next week if they lose? My bet is Bill Callahan or Snead.

It’s wild how unlucky the titans keep seeming to be always stumbling into players who just can’t ever execute. Overturned half the roster and the same problem! Coaching can’t be it because players have their own agency!

Well, I can't blame Colt Anderson anymore... or Will Levis, or Daley, or Vrabel, or Ran... 

 

Oh wait, fans were 100% correct to criticize people failing to perform and the criticism will and SHOULD continue as long as this team fails to perform.

I think you misread. It's not a matter of luck. It's a matter of talent/ability. Bad players that are overmatched in their individual match ups, often commit penalties in an attempt to stay competitive. It's partly why limited CBs like Brownlee are often so heavily penalized; they're having to be extra scrappy to try to stay with superior athletes and this results in penalties. It's not about Callahan being "unlucky" it's about the Titans roster lacking talent. If you disagree then show me how my two examples are more on coaching than on player execution.

Brownlee plays very aggressive and handsy and that leads itself to penalties.
