Callahan directly lost the game

Lewan got his captain's patch stripped at one point. He still went on to be a walking penalty flag for the rest of his career. He would go on twitter and seem very contrite, then do some more dumb shit a week or two later. Undisciplined players are who they are and the only way to really stop the penalties is to bench them  in favor of someone more disciplined. We don't have that luxury because we suck.

There's definitely truth in this.  Do we suck because of the culture or is the culture bad because we suck?  I'm not sure.  Based upon the stated traits like high character, football IQ and team captains that the Titans were looking for in this draft I'm guessing they think the culture can be fixed and the wins will follow.  Allowing Simmons to be stupid with no repercussions runs contrary to that philosophy.

I'm pretty pissed that Callahan called for a Pollard fumble, 8 drops, and our Tackles to get beat like drums. Horrible game planning.

I definitely agree with you that Simmons, and a lack of discipline should be punished by the coaches. I think that's where you risk allowing a passive culture to build. That said, I have no illusions that punishing Jeff will change him. He is who he is and we have to live with it until he decides he's serious about changing that about himself.

You do you babe. I’m not stopping you

You were making a snarky remark about people criticizing individuals for what one can only assume was a "team loss" in your eyes. There is no way to really interpret that other than to make the natural inference that you were taking a shot at people who were criticizing Callahan. By extension, you were attempting to stop people. Babe.

The worse part of yesterday is that it certainly injected a level of concern that was not there before that we may be wasting and mismanaging a key development year for Ward. Brinker and Borgonzi has to constantly assess and ask themselves that question. Again, its an organizational responsibility to maximize and not spoil/waste a talent like Ward.

Idk how that can be your take away from what I said. He was bad in this game overall. Hard to deny that. I’m talking about the people calling for his job after week 1 on the road in Denver against that defense with a rookie quarterback.

You don’t need my approval if you wanna write him off already.

Albert Haynesworth was one of my favorite Titans.  Simmons reminds me of him to an extent.  Dude was a monster that was always just a moment away from breaking the chain that kept him from murdering someone.  We saw what happened when that chain broke.  Having a guy like that on your team isn't necessarily bad.  I'd actually argue the opposite in the right circumstances.  Having a guy like that on your team who is a team leader, and also can't be controlled by the coaches is the wrong circumstance though.

Yeah I was thinking this yesterday. Just because a player is good and loud and has been here doesn't make them a good leader or captain. The captain tag almost defaults to seniority on our young team... but it shouldn't be given to players that cant control their emotions or cant lead by example.

Give the captains tag to guys that had to work harder than anyone else, are still good players, and stay composed.

Simmons does not deserve the captains tag.

It would be difficult for any coach to overcome a QB who throws too hard

Supernope with the levity we need to cope with this crappy week 1 outcome. Much appreciated.
