kyle021
If we traded Mariota for a few high round picks and went in a diff direction. I would want the staff to sign Flacco to a 4 year deal and sign a WR and OG to pair. Bring in Flacco and Brown at WR and sign a solid OG or C and put Levin at the other spot. Retain Morgan, and Vaccaro defensively Use the the draft to nail down a RB like Love in 1 and defense the rest of the way or pass rusher in 1 with a RB like Anderson from Oklahoma in 2 and defense the rest of the way. bosss50, and EagleEye 1

MemphisTitan
The thing with Mariota is he’s good but not great. He’s probably never going to be a guy like a Brees, Brady, Rodgers or Manning who can carry a team to a championship but he’s good enough to be the starting Qb for a championship team if he has great pieces around him. I don’t think we should dump our Qb just because he isn’t a Hofer caliber guy. I would rather just stick with the solid but not great guy than cycle through 1000 qbs looking for a Superstar. We may end up looking for 30 years. Edited October 23, 2018 by MemphisTitan TF_Titan, pamo9, and Nash

He enters his 5th year so he makes $21 mil right there. We just had what looked like a great draft for QBs so fewer teams are desperate and the real bad teams will already have an early pick to take a QB. most teams are starved for a QB. You could likely get a 1st and 3rd for him.
oldschool
Just now, Soxcat said: Maybe if Brees and Brady both retire or something like that. But there are very few teams who don't already have a QB as good or better than Mariota. Not to mention that a crappy team picking in the top 10 isn't going to want to give that pick up for Mariota. He is simply not that good. I imagine there are new age OCs/HC's out there that think they can win with Mariota. Downtown

We may end up looking for 30 years. I think it is easier to get a team to carry a QB to the championship. Of those you named, maybe only Brady has carried a team more than once. Maybe Rodgers did it ONE year. Manning did it ONE year with Indy and then rode the Bronco to another. Brees only won once. Those guys are hard to find and even they don't really dominate except statistically-- except perhaps TB12.

Right now Mariota is an 80 rated QB who has issues with staying 100% healthy. Name off the last time someone like this was traded for a 1st and 3rd going into the last year of their contract (he will obviously have to sign a new one with his new team). Mariota has never smelled 4000 yards passing and is obviously handicapped with his lack of pocket feel. Unless he has the best OL in the NFL he is hampered with making multiple reads and obviously does not see the field like some of the better QBs. Now name off the teams that would get in line for the guy. You see a WR is someone almost every team can use. Most teams have a QB as good or better than a guy who is not in the top 2/3 of the league. Here is a list of the QBs and their passing yards. Go down that list to where you see a QB, that is not already a backup, you would replace with Mariota. Link Handicapped with a lack of pocket feel is a bit harsh. He had some trouble with this his rookie year but it hasn't been an issue since 2016 & it wouldn't even be discussed were it not for him getting sacked 11 times in one game. Start with the fact that Marcus has missed 6 qtrs of football behind yet another shit O-Line in yet another new system and you're trying to use total yards as a measuring stick. Besides that, 3 of them are easy. Bortles, Keenum and most likely Dalton. Eli would be next, but only because he's close to retiring, and Marcus could sit behind him for a year and hone his craft under their coaches and learn their system. Try sorting that chart by completion percentage and percentage of 1st down throws and it looks a lot different. But screw it, go ahead and trade him and see where you end up.
