Definitely regional and it wasn't just one isolated thing that caused it. But Obama did inherit 1.85 gas. It was 200% higher when he left office.

I personally don't attribute gas prices to presidents -- or the overall economy for that matter. I think it's hilarious how Dems AND Repubs always point fingers at the opposing leaders and then say it doesn't apply to theirs when it's their turn.

The Dem clapback on this: oh well gas prices are directly related to Iran blah blah blah. Venezuela and Iran have been major issues facing Presidents for decades. You can blame Trump, or you can blame all the other Presidents for failure to act because they knew it would be politically unpopular and expensive.

There isn't much doubt about who caused the current high prices.

I hope you took a step back from pumping your super cheap gas before you dropped this fire line.

Come on over to the politics forum and explain the positive outcomes of the war in Iran, as you see them, and what "dealing with Iran" actually means.   I'm going to suggest we don't go any

That was Bush, dummy.

I almost always attribute gas prices to elections. Gas companies manipulate the elections and public more than just about anything. They have an incumbent that they think will make them more money? Gas prices stay low. Incumbent likely to hurt the gas companies profits compared to the challenger? Jack the price up several months before elections.

We are in a trapped economy where the only way to reasonably travel is by using gas and the only way to ship is by using gas. If hydroelectric and nuclear werent so damn cheap, the only way we'd have electricity would be by using gas.

The price for everything is influenced by gas. So they have power and control politics via that power.

Bush was happy to start a war over oil control - both Bushes were - as they were oil magnates themselves. Start a war, raise prices, profit. Get cheaper gas purchases from your installed regime? profit.

Left office?

This is where you can easily spot misinformation and propaganda with an easy search on the internet...

Gas was $2.33 the day that Trump took over in 2017.

I misspoke. I was referring to his first term and typed "when he left office." That's my bad. And I did give him credit for his efforts to lower them.

"In April 2011, President Barack Obama announced the formation of the Oil and Gas Price Fraud Working Group, a task force aimed at investigating potential price gouging, market manipulation, and fraud contributing to high gasoline prices."

Also, not that anyone cares about nuance (and, yes, this is more interesting than the thread itself) but there's some good discussion here about causes and impacts and what Obama may or may not have been responsible for.

Tannehill was a tough as nails bad ass QB.  If you could add one more piece to that team to get to the SB?  What else did the need?  AJ Brown was just coming into the league.  They wasted a lot of time with Mariota forcing them to play every game to get into the playoffs.  No rest.  Houston was actually their first playoff game.  The odds were against them.

I couldn't care less about gas prices.  I haven't bought a tank of gas since 2018!
