I'm a fan of this hire over Nagy but Saleh's leadership is still up in the air. Lots of reports of toxicity during his tenure with NYJ and some players celebrated his firing. That transformation coincided with a schematic shift: Saleh brought in defensive line coach Kris Kocurek and installed the “Wide 9” front that fueled the first of two Super Bowl appearances during Shanahan’s tenure. Justafan Posted January 20 Report Share Posted January 20 Stoked that they got their guy, and honestly, a defensive-minded head coach feels right for the identity of this franchise. I need to see the staff now. There are some critical hires to be made, and the ultimate evaluation will be on the field, but for now, I'm happy they stayed true to their process and got the guy who I think has the best chance to actually reset the culture of the team. Franchise has undoubtedly been more fun when led by offensive minded (passing) coaches, but more successful when led by control-the-clock run-first defensive minded coaches. Don't care about his record with the Jets. His time in SF proved that he has altered his approach on the defensive side of the ball (more multilple, more aggressive, less Cover 3). I suspect we will see other adjustments on the offensive side of the ball. But what we got is a coach that the boys in the locker room rally around. And this time, he won't have the NY Press making his life miserable. I would have loved Harbaugh, I had a personal preference for McDaniel, I would have tolerated Nagy ... but this is as reasonable of a hiring approach that we could have hoped for. titansfan Posted January 20 Report Share Posted January 20 (edited) Do we move to a base 4-3? I think he prefers more dynamic front four play. Saleh places more emphasis on multiple LBs and good LB play than what we have in the past several years. I think a guy like Cody Barton now becomes an odd fit.
