If Bailey and Reese hit, that's an edge rusher which is going provide more value than Styles. Unless Styles is the next Ray Lewis/Kuechly, off ball LB isn't going to transform a D the way an edge does. If we got the Rams 2027 first I would personally go after Stafford's knee Tanya Harding style so that we might end up with a decent chance at Smith. I also don't hate the trade down. He's way more valuable than a RB. He's also not jst athletic, he can play well. We did not see enough of that at Ohio State. Mentioned this a couple of weeks ago. Styles had 13 impact plays (Sack/TFL/INT/FF/FR/PBU/TD) last year + 24 in 2024. Rodriguez had 32 this year and 27 in 2024. Hill Jr. had 18 this year and 32 in 2024. Every defense is different and Styles could’ve just been not asked to do things that would have been more likely to put him in position to make more plays like Rodriguez and Hill Jr., but if you are spending the 4th overall pick on a guy he better have some serious playmaking ability, especially given the team around him should have freed him up to make more plays.
