Or he'd have been fired instead of being given the chance to hand play calling duties to someone else and focus on more of the team. That's them saying they think he's capable but is too focused on the offense. But if it doesn't get better, he'll be in trouble. Come on dude. They're protecting Strunk and trying to make her not seem impulsive and unfair at the end of the day. They need to protect her reputation in order to garner good candidates in the future, so they're going to pull out all the stops first. Now, that doesn't mean Callahan can't salvage everything with wins. He has the opportunity. But the biggest plus of keeping Callahan would be Dennard Wilson and Bill Callahan - and they both need to show massive improvement themselves or there's just zero justification to keep Callahan. He now has to hand that off to someone else. Hard to spin that as anything positive . i dont agree with that. He was hired on his history with great QBs and working with a #1 pick in Burrow... and then helping Browning look good in Burrows absence... and because of an offense that had proven successful at the time. When he was hired, they talked about his lack of play-calling experience and that they knew there would be bumps there. He had also said if need be he would hand off the duties OilerTitanHybrid, Pragidealist, reo, and 1 other 2

One of the main knocks on the Callahan hire was that he'd never called plays. To say he was hired for his ability to call plays is silly. titanruss, airmcnair22, and Mythos27 2

I guess it sucks for you they didn't publicly tar and feather him and put his head on a spike Game of Thrones style, but get tf over it. At least for now. If it doesn't work out? Shafted1
It’s obvious this was forced on him but he was smart to accept it. There is a small chance he gets better at managing a game without playcalling. Personally think he is a dead man walking but he has a 14 game audition to prove he can manage the game. He will still be involved in the design of the game. Holtz is basically fired. I’m surprised Hardegree is not asking to be made OC given his play calling duties. on a side note, Callahan was incredibly stupid to hire Holtz in the first place. He should have hired someone with more experience given how new he was going to be in all of this. He hired a new DC, new special teams coach and under qualified OC. None of them had been in their positions either. Now Wilson was going to get a DC job so that one was ok. He rectified special teams this year but I think he blamed all the offense problems on Levis so didn’t look at Holtz with more scrutiny. It’s a huge case of self sabotage. Shafted1
Callahan has a 90% chance of being fired in the offseason. But before this move, it was 100%. Smokes, and Mythos27 1
