My gusss is either Amy wanted him fired knowing how quick fingered she is and our FO said well before we do anything rash let’s try this. He’s a dead man walking I give it a few more weeks. Houston will definitely beat us despite their issues they’re still much better team on all 3 phases.

I think after we get embarrassed at home by Vrabel and the Pats he gets fired.

Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out.    This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season.    Callahan was hired to ca

This move...a non firing but stripping of authority....keeps AAS from being labeled impulsive again.

The funny thing is there wasn't an easier situation for Callahan to keep his job. They decision makers were publicly squashing expectations and talking about patience. He basically had a free pass. Al

The only thing they could do short of firing him was take away play calling. You can’t take game management away from a coach. I’ll reiterate, he is likely 90% fired at the end of the season but was 100% before this move. It’s possible he was overwhelmed doing both jobs and small chance he could be better. He also needs to grow a pair. He keeps playing so conservative. He needs to recognize his team is almost always going to be less talented than the other team. He needs to take risks. Go for more 4th downs. Not be a bitch every time we get the ball late in a half to settle for a field goal attempt.

Especially considering his young offensive playmakers that feed on momentum and his QB that was aggressive as hell in college.

They WANT to play super aggressive and slowing therm too much is stunting and likely disheartening them.

Exactly. One of the main knocks on the Callahan hire was that he'd never called plays. To say he was hired for his ability to call plays is silly.

Looking back it was a dumb move.  A move that can be placed on Carthon and Brinker.  At least MLF had one season of calling plays before doing both in GB.

It's a demotion of the HC lol.

🤷‍♂️ maybe? Not all HC's call plays. Head coaches will sometimes hand off their play calling duties to the OC. I've seen good HCs do that. But to hand it off to a QB coach? I've never seen that.

As someone who usually makes the correct assessment about coaches - as well as most things - I'm optimistic.  Not only is it addition by subtraction by getting Callahan's hands off of one aspect of the team, but I've seen some good things from Hardegree's time in LC in what little I've watched.

That’s the thing . He’s honestly worse at game management than play calling.

Like others have said, if you take away play calling and give someone else the game management duties he's just a cardboard cut out on the sidelines

Amy had fired Vrabel Robinson carthan without a blink, no chance she wasn’t gearing to do so after last Sunday. Somebody saved this man’s job and my guess it was Our gm

Then she'd have fired him. This is as much a sign that she's not ready to fire him yet as anything else.

Her history is if she wants someone gone, they're gone.

Only if you have a very limited view of what a HC does.

What if the OL becomes one of the best units in the NFL when healthy as the year goes on?

That would be a critical consideration in terms of keeping Callahan Sr and the value of keeping Cally.

I think you're right btw, just playing devil's advocate.

What if Ridley catches EVERY ball thrown his way?  There's some advocating for the devil.

For those that are arguing that he wasn’t hired for playcalling ability (despite not having done it), if that’s the case why didn’t he hire a better OC? It’s obvious they hired him because they thought he could build a modern offense and that means him calling the plays and not Holz.

Calling plays was part of his job duties.  So, yes, he was hired to call plays.  But not because he had experience at it.  There is a difference.
