Calling plays was part of his job duties.  So, yes, he was hired to call plays.  But not because he had experience at it.  There is a difference.

He wasnt required to call plays,  it was his choice. He wasnt hired because he was caller and he was free to have a pla-calling OC.

Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out.    This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season.    Callahan was hired to ca

This move...a non firing but stripping of authority....keeps AAS from being labeled impulsive again.

The funny thing is there wasn't an easier situation for Callahan to keep his job. They decision makers were publicly squashing expectations and talking about patience. He basically had a free pass. Al

FWIW Nick Siriani gave up play calling a few years back. People were saying he was in over his head. That team started 2-5 and ended 7-3. I’m aware that we don’t have the Eagles personnel but my point is that even with great offensive personnel they still weren’t doing well. Handing the keys to someone else helped the offense and helped Siriani as a head coach.

We have more problem than just play calling and game management, but maybe those 2 things improve

You guys are insane if you don't think Callahan was pushing his ability to run an offense with him as play caller as a reason to hire him. It's ridiculous.

No, they hired him because they really wanted to experience the Nick Holz playcalling adventure!

Yeah , it’s ludicrous.

He sold his experience and ability to develop QBs.  Him wanting to call plays was something we were ALL concerned  about.

JFC. it's like you guys don't remember things beyond a couple weeks.

I agree it's not a positive.  Never said it was.  He's in trouble and the only thing that will save him is winning.

Yup. The idea he won't get credit for it is the crazy part lol. That being said its unlikely the team turns it around enough to save his job.

Like I get it we didn't fire him so he has a chance to right the ship. Good for him and the team I guess. Whatever it's fine and not like any change we made would save the team or the season. No one came in with huge expectations anyways.

To then when he's absolutely fucking demoted from a role he took on himself and absolutely told the FO and ownership he would be in command of to for some unknown reason try to use semantics to recreate history is absurd on its face.

In what world are you living in? It sure as hell isn't reality. He told ownership he would be the play caller.

Vrabel was a fairly well known micromanager. He wanted to control everything.

Yes of course, but he had Downing in charge of red zone while Arthur Smith was OC, Charles London was in charge of 3rd down when he was here, etc.

of course he did.

JFC, man. We knew he wanted to call plays. That does not mean he was hired TO call plays. He was hired to design the offense and groom the QB. He wanted to call plays in the process so they let him.

This isn't complicated. what the actual fuck?

You are legit an idiot. He told the FO that he could design and run an offense therefore never have to worry about losing an OC, which is what happened with Vrabel. If you can't connect the dots you're for real an idiot.

There was also talk about how the OL would be deciding on how to block a certain play and what techniques, etc and Vrabel would come in and just steam roll everything and tell them how to do it.

Those guys were "in charge" but they weren't really in charge.

imo Vrabel was one of the primary reasons the OL sucked.
