Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out.    This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season.    Callahan was hired to ca

This move...a non firing but stripping of authority....keeps AAS from being labeled impulsive again.

The funny thing is there wasn't an easier situation for Callahan to keep his job. They decision makers were publicly squashing expectations and talking about patience. He basically had a free pass. Al

I’ll jump back on board if by some miracle him giving up play calling helps him hyper focus on game planning and coaching instead of worrying about having the play calls ready. Dan Campbell was the same way his second year and they went on a run to win like 7 in a row. I’m gonna be an optimist and give this a shot, but if they come out completely flat next week and Houston whose 0-3 destroys us I’ll be out for good.

This is both an indictment on Ward AND Callahan. I think BC has not adjusted the game plan to cater to Ward and simplifying the offense. We also had the 11th slowest time before the QB gets pressured in the league which is a bit surprising. I would have guessed the opposite was true.

It would be interesting to see how much influence Sr has.

He has to have a confidant.  Someone you can tell every thing about, your strengths and weaknesses.  I had already been thinking his dad has to be who's helping him.  When you have a confidant, it's kinda accepted in advance you'll follow some of their advice.  Why keep calling if you aren't using his advice?   The parallel between the two as coaches is scary.

Really is insane how this franchise keeps shooting itself in the foot over and over.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Borgonzi will have a year under his belt and will have evaluated the coaching staff prior to hiring his HC. Sometimes those shotgun marriages where a GM and a HC is hired the same year leads to Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll

The problem is each time you turf out a coaching staff you face the prospect of looking for completely different traits for particular positions.

What happens if the next OC and OL coach want to go back to an outside zone run scheme and the last couple of years they have been stacking guys for a more gap/duo Bill Callahan run scheme.

Personally I don’t think they made draft decisions based on Callahan. I think they took who they felt was BPA.

I understand your point though

Carthon literally said Latham was Bill Callahan's guy.

According the the family callahan they have every single run ever invented in the playbook so they should have a leg up.

I'm confident they will find a new HC that aligns with what Borgonzi and Brinker want philosophically.
