Calling plays was part of his expected duties when hired.  Is that better?

His expected duties were to design the offense and groom a QB. He wanted to call plays and they let him decide to do it if he wanted. Is that better?

I don't think they cared who called the plays. He wanted to so they let him. It wasn't a perk of hiring him. It was his decision until it wasn't.

Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out.    This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season.    Callahan was hired to ca

This move...a non firing but stripping of authority....keeps AAS from being labeled impulsive again.

The funny thing is there wasn't an easier situation for Callahan to keep his job. They decision makers were publicly squashing expectations and talking about patience. He basically had a free pass. Al

The problem is fans think the Titans offense stinks because of "play calling". Even if there is truth to this it's not close to the main problem.

The Titans have a rookie QB with the worst QBR in the league, 19.

The Titans OL is horrid(this is one areas that should get better)

The Titans have rookies at all the skill people

Ridley sucks/can't catch

The Titans can't run the ball

The schedule appears to be front loaded.

Then maybe the HC should focus more on those things than deciding what plays to call in what specific scenario.

They said Holz's role won't really change and I dont see where it would.

It's still the same 4 guys coming up with the game plan.. Brian, Holz, Bo, Bill.

yeah, i don't think it will. But if the HC is handing off playcalling then you think it should... it's not which is interesting.

How did they expect to measure progress? It’s obvious not by W/L.

I guess i expected them to look functional at times while getting overwhelmed with the talent disparity later on in games .

Outside of ST, they look awful for 70% of the game.

What was the context behind the Randy Jordan comment? @tgo

Just Callahan mentioning the coordinating duties of the offensive coaches during the week. I was making the point that Randy Jordan should be on the outs since he clearly sucks at the screen game (so far).

(Brian Callahan coached with Studesville in Denver, and interviewed him for OC before he hired Holz. Presumably if he was available for RB coach, Callahan would make that switch. Randy Jordan is his dad's acolyte - played for him in Oakland and then coached with him at Nebraska and Washington)

Like Oilerman said pages ago it’s semantics.

Doesn’t change the fact that him turning over the duties is not a positive for him and that his seat is fucking hot .

I agree it's not a positive.  Never said it was.  He's in trouble and the only thing that will save him is winning.
