The only real problem was that he didn’t know a defender was coming up behind him, which is how the ball got knocked loose. I agree that he’s not going to get a lot of designed runs. He will take off if he can’t find someone and there’s room for him to run, but they aren’t calling QB draws for Ward like Levis is getting. Well, he definitely stopped looking and started running before he was stripped. Not even tucking the ball. Anyways his running isn't a strength. He looks slow whenever he runs. He looked kinda slow on the play where he got injured last year. He looks about as fast as Mahomes at best and I don't think as elusive. Mahomes mainly runs when there are huge running lanes bc they are scared of his passing ability. Running makes sense in that context but I definitely wouldn't want to see them making a habit of it. I'd definitely take running vs that dud throw he tried to deliver to Tate. He has these amazing throws then head scratchers like that one. It felt like he was basically throwing the ball away

Hooker had the same number, and % of missed tackles as Nick Emmanwori who is one of the best run defenders in the NFL in the secondary His tackling is fine for the most part, his angles are not

Number9 Posted yesterday at 06:30 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 06:30 AM 10 hours ago, IsntLifeFunny said: That isn't the point. His pocket presence was one of his best attributes in college and last year. He's not climbing the pocket in the two preseason games, which seems like it's because he's struggling a bit with the fact they're telling him to run more. I think it'll be fine given time, but I'm not sure if this quick read offense is the best way to coach a guy like Ward. On the other hand, he is making his reads quicker, which is good to see. Cam's self taught. Certainly his coaches have helped him since middle school, but he's got his own m.o. He sounds good in his interviews, but he's been doing his own thing since middle school. He wasn't developed in HS, College and not the NFL. Last year, his first year in the NFL he gets bc and an interim HC. Two HCs. Now THREE in less than three seasons. That's not how to develop a R-QB. His last collegiate year at Miami, what did he do that made him the #1 draft pick. He threw for 4300yds and 39TDs. He's a big ball hunter. He got drafted by a bad team and a bad coach. @Miami he was 305/453 averaged 9.5ypa and only threw 7INTs. That's accuracy. So, now the Titans are saying the above is why we drafted you, but now we want you to throw the ball differently. You have to throw -1yd-to 10yd passes on the money so the receiver can do something with it. Not his game. You ever play with a golfer who nails then 275 straight down the middle and 120yds out can't get a par. No short game. He is a hard worker, they have to develop. All the extra practice I ever see is the long ball. I think he has to be taught how to play the short game. Maybe spend a lot more practice time on his short ball game. Teach him where to put the ball and why. IsntLifeFunny

There will be growing pains relating to that and inconsistent accuracy. XAEA12

Pragidealist Posted yesterday at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 01:47 PM I saw that one too. Basically, after getting a little excited his first preseason game, he was mostly fine this one. It's preseaon. I think Cam said they are not even really using their reg season primary playbook- which they spend most of their practices on. Preseason need to hurry up and end so we can start complaining about real games. rns90, oldschool, and OILERMAN

To play devil's advocate, some of us are still in our preseason complaining form so maybe we need this last preseason game to get our complaining tuned up some more. All that needs to be said is you would hope the #1 overall pick looked a bit more polished early in his 2nd year and he needs to cut out the WTF plays but lets wait till the real regular season bullets start flying before condemning his career. Which part of their game plan caused Winston to take a bad angle, Helm to not get his feet inbounds, and Tate to drop a ball that hit him in the hands. Also, did the 49ers back ups have a full game plan too because they made our starters look like back ups as well. Let's see if you'll actually answer the questions this time. Tate and Helm's best attributes are their hands and ball skills, so I'm not worried about that. Tate showed he can separate, and Helm showed that he can be on the same page as Ward when he's improvising. So big picture, those two plays were a net positive. The Winston one is troubling. titanruss
The only worry for me with Cam has been his pocket awareness disappearing. it's entirely possible they are telling him to get to the scramble drill quickly to practice it.... at least that's the hope. if the accuracy problems continue 5-6 games into the season (once everyone gets their option routes fully figured out) - then I'll be worried about his shoulder and fundamentals. Individually, I'm not concerned. I'm hopeful that those two players will figure it out. It's the overall talent level of the team that I'm concerned by. We poured a lot of resources into raising the talent floor of the team and so far that has not been apparent. Hopefully it shows during the regular season when we're scheming against teams and the adrenaline is hitting different but that remains to be seen.
