PSG2 GameDay Thread: Seahawks @ Titans

Individually, I'm not concerned. I'm hopeful that those two players will figure it out. It's the overall talent level of the team that I'm concerned by. We poured a lot of resources into raising the talent floor of the team and so far that has not been apparent. Hopefully it shows during the regular season when we're scheming against teams and the adrenaline is hitting different but that remains to be seen.

The defense was inexcusably shitty.   Saleh's defense was also awful in his first year with the Jets before they became great in subsequent years - I'm really hoping for a much quicker turnaround, and think they have the players to be close to that level.

As far as the offense, the difference between the floor and ceiling are massive.   Robinson, Ridley, and Tate could all be 1K receivers this year, or they could all suck.  Ward could play like the #1 pick, or like the QB of a team which will be picking #1 again next year.  The OL is getting paid as much as that of the Eagles, but will probably provide worse protection than Epstein had in prison.

It feels good, but we can't get complacent. As an undefeated team, we're gonna get everyone's best from here on out.

Zach Lyons just said on the radio that Sam Darnold said the seahawks did a full game plan for their backups against the Titans.

Right. The variance in potential outcomes is so high that IMO it's unreasonable to not have any level of concern after watching them massively underperform against back ups 2 weeks in a row. This isn't a team that has earned enough trust that you just completely overlook everything. If they were coming off a strong playoff appearance and returning most of their starters I'd chalk it up to weird preseason shit even if I didn't fully believe it but I don't see why this group should get the benefit of the doubt. They haven't earned shit.

The missed tackles look great on paper,  but he's still below average as a receiver in terms of EPA outside of his rookie season.  And he's downright bad as a runner - like you said, he can be effective, but only when he's given such a vast amount of space to run that anyone would be successful.  The likelihood that we could find someone better in FA - or even on this own roster - seems very high.

The coaches have been stubborn about the RB utilization for as long as I can remember.  Chestnut has been on the active roster for years and has played well in very limited time, but they absolutely refuse to even try to see what he looks like with a decent sample size of snaps.  Instead, they're staying committed to a RB who will only further the struggles of a bad offense

Yeah I was disappointed when we drafted Spears over Achane. I had no idea Achane would become what he has but I just felt if you’re taking a back there go with the kid who runs a sub 4.3 but I digress. Spears produced in college but you’re right, hes been a bad runner every year here though I believe he did have alot of 10+ runs his rookie year. But since then Hes been brutal, he just does not see the hole. Lack of vision at the LOS is the death knell for any runner.

Lol the stats without context mentality ha now infected Warren Sharp. What happened to this dude? He used to be better than this.

LOL. So you were always a Sharp guy until he gets added to the massive pile of folks disturbed by how the team looks?

I don’t give a shit about the score or who won. I care about how bad certain guys looked like @Mythos27 said. I mean seriously, I’ve read about a dozen posts here saying “relax Cam only had 2 bad plays”. ONLY 2? He played a fucking qtr & a half. And it was 3. He underthrew EA by about 6 yards on the out & up, overthrew Tate by about 60, and got stripped. That was on top of his various “run backwards 20 yard plays” last week. Talking about CW specifically nobody can tell me it isn’t at least a bit concerning especially when you add up how many times we’ve read about him missing wide open guys in camp reports. I’m sorry but we’ve all been here done that shit with VY, Locker, and MM already. It seems like nobody has the slightest concern & Cam’s a no doubt big time guy. We’ll see.

Yeah it’s weird because Saleh has such a simple defense. It’s a rush 4 & cover. It’s my favorite defense, I’m done with the complex blitzing 3-4 stuff. You need to draft too many “types”. Basically all the best defenses ever were some type of rush 4 whether it be the old cover 2 or the newer cover 3 which is basically the old cover 2 lol. But there shouldn’t be a huge learning curve Thats for sure.

I'm here. Which part of their game plan caused Winston to take a bad angle, Helm to not get his feet inbounds, and Tate to drop a ball that hit him in the hands. Also, did the 49ers back ups have a full game plan too because they made our starters look like back ups as well. Let's see if you'll actually answer the questions this time.

Mistakes happen, its preseason but no team will look good against any opponent when they don't game plan and the other team does. To be clear since @Face is struggling with reading comp in this thread. I'm not claiming the Titans are better than what they showed last weekend nor have I claimed they aren't a bad football team. All I've said is that preseason games are not an indicator of anything one way or the other. We've seen it for 30+ years and its even more true now because many teams don't put any real effort into it.

The nuance is context and in terms of this game, SEA was clearly game planning on offense and maybe a lesser extent on defense.

That said, Ward has looked very ordinary in the 2 games.  His best play IMO was the scramble throw to Helm who didn't get his feet down but even then the throw was a tad late - a tick earlier and it's not nearly as difficult a catch.

The elephant in the room is that he was drafted #1 overall.  The expectation is a stud QB - top 10 type of guy.  He's got a way to go - I think a reasonable comp would be Caleb Williams whom did make a jump in year 2 although not I don't think he's the guy he was proclaimed to be pre-draft....
