Ok. Find a post of me saying that. I bet what you'll find is multiple posts of me clearly explaining that coaching matters but talent matters WAY more. You might even find posts of me explaining how the lower the level of competition is, the more coaching matters. Or you could continue to strawman my position because it's so much easier. Whatever works for you.

It's real simple. You are not winning the Daytona 500 in a Pinto. If you have the fastest car a lot of drivers can win in it.

I'm totally fine with the Titans drafting Ward. Enough people think he can be good and he's shown enough NFL traits. It would not be like the Titans overdrafting Anthony Richardson or Trey Lance.

Thats absolutely insane to me. Warner IS talking about 25-30 years ago though.

I will say, maybe it was just my high school full of averagely gifted upper middle-class white kids....but we dove deep into teaching and coverages and philosophy. Hole options and lane for RBs depending on D alignments, we'd swap zone or man blocking depending on plays and sometimes D alignment. Playcalls for all levels and sometimes sides of the defense, layering options for QBs and different man/zone killers.

But you do hear about how Henry in high school had never pass blocked a single time or run any routes and he didnt know where the holes were supposed to be.. he just got the ball and ran.

So when some people are getting great teaching back in even JR high.. its crazy to me that the one player that requires the most attention gets almost none?

Half the league is complete amateur hour then and running on pure talent or robotic execution.

Brady did say he could handle and process a lot of info...not everyone can do that and still play loose or instinctively.

Add that to the complexity of an NFL offense and the shortened amount of time you have to install everything on both sides of the ball and you may find that robotic execution is the best way to go in order to win some games so players and or coaches can stick around long enough to go beyond the robotic shit.

I can't believe it has to even be explained/argued on this board of all places. We've seen coaches turn from pumpkins into princes and then right back to a pumpkins due to differences in roster talent particularly at QB. Belichick went from being viewed as the GOAT genius of all time to a doddering old fool that got fired in the span of like 2 years. Mind you, Belichick did make a difference for his teams as one of the best HCs of all time but even he couldn't survive a terrible roster.

This entire board was convinced Brady was washed the year we knocked him out of the playoffs. I was adamant that Brady was fine and being held back by a roster so bad even he couldn't carry. He won the Superbowl like a year later. I'm getting pretty tired of arguing the most obviously true things on this board.

I think this is  just a lack of understanding of what a coaches roll is when it comes to a team.  A good coach is working in February generally unnoticed building a product...and even that gets confused with who is responsible...the GM or the Coach...but in an ideal situation its a combination of both.

putting together mini camps and TC and building a coaching staff and just conducting all this shit.

But truth is nobody cares about this or recognizes the value in it.

And then at some point you hand it off to the players and it's on them to succeed.

in the end the players get the glory if it goes well cause that's the last thing that everyone sees.

Players and coaches have 2 different roles and its very complicated to decipher the value of them in the end.

and of course if you get the GOAT at QB then you can probably ride that wagon to glory as a coach but that's an outlier IMO

anyway...just my 2 cents

relax guys, I'm just busting @Mythos27 chops. We established last time we had this conversation that talent and work ethic trump coaching but that coaching helps. In essence, a player needs to have base ability and the desire to develop so that a coach can help them but no one in the right minds thinks a coach can turn shit players into all pros.

Ward has the talent of a franchise QB. He's got the foundation and elite skills few QBs have.

Now he's got to get experience and learn the nuance and develop the details that make a QB great.

Past QBs drafted by the Titans needed to overcome major flaws. Maybe he(Mariota, Levis etc..) can overcome them like Josh Allen did!

With Ward he's 90% up the mountain, as a rookie who's barely played. Once the game slows down and he learns the little things he's there,

The Titans have a franchise QB, the rest of the team needs attention now. That's a good place to be

which is why after seeing 1 game of action I'm ready to sell anyone on defense to find ways to protect him.

the past trauma is too great even if we know he's a different breed.

The so called better QB class of 2026 isn’t looking great right now. Thank god we got Cam.

The so called better QB class of 2027, i.e. the Arch Manning sweepstakes, also isn't looking terribly wonderful either.

11/25, 114 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 26.5 QBR yesterday.

A top tier QB is the most scarce thing in football and it's not even close. You don't gamble away an opportunity to secure your QBOTF when it's staring you in the face. Regardless of whether or not these college QBs ever turn into anything good, Ward is looking like an absolute gift.

I always understood the logic of those who argued the Titans should have traded down.   It was solid reasoning.

But I always felt the idea of passing on a franchise QB in order to build up the rest of the roster  was kinda like to passing on an opportunity to get your ultimate dream home and spending that entire budget on furniture and fixtures...and no house to put it in.

There are any number of critical components for sustained success at the NFL level.     Everyone agrees that QB is the single most important factor...it could even be argued that the QB is as important as everything else combined.

Watching the game, Cam looks highly capable and potentially great.  Looking at the stat sheet, Will Levis blows him out of the water as a QB.

Talent is definitely at play, but that alone can't explain the horrific numbers.   This arrangement clearly isn't working, and I'm inclined to side with Ward here.  They have to correct this ASAP - like, this fucking week.
