I think it's obvious at this point the Titans are taking Ward. I'm on board and think his ceiling is pretty high. Callahan gave an interview to A to Z after the season that was super revealing about the failings of Levis and what he wants in a QB that screams Cam Ward. 

 

The first thing Callahan talks about is how the pass blocking made it harder on Levis. His strength was playaction deep passes, they couldn't do that. Levis wasn't good at the quick timing, get the ball out quick passing game. 

 

Obviously the biggest priority this offseason is fixing the pass protection. Moore and Zeitler and Latham to RT. This clears the path for Ward to have a good situation in terms of being protected. 

 

Callahan goes on to talk about the 3 things he looks for. Decision making, timing and accuracy. It looks like Ward can do these things pretty consistently and has been improving rapidly over the last few years. If he's going to reach his ceiling things have to be good, consistently. 

 

The last thing is his talk about the "nervous system". How does a QB operate under pressure, critical situations and with a muddy pocket. Levis was as bad as it gets in these situations. Levis was good in the class room and seemed to fool Vrabel and Callahan but on the field totally melted down.

 

Cam Ward has a Jayden Daniels like demeanor in terms of calmness in the face of chaos. In so many situations when things break down he manipulates the pocket, buys time and delivers an accurate pass, or he escapes and runs for a 1st down. It's not just a few instances he does it consistently. I see the comparisons to McNair in this regard. 

 

I don't pretend to be able to scout QBs super in depth but it looks like Ward can execute a quick precision timing offense and create plays when things break down. It's impossible to know how he'll turn out but the potential looks very high.

You watched Ward and saw consistently good timing? I'm not sure. He passes up or seemingly misses quick throw on occasions when actually dropping back. His defined quick reads/RPOs are really good and he seems to be able to read a defense after the snap but maybe not before. His accuracy is average to bad to the sideline and deep but great over the middle. The Georgia Tech game was really concerning when forced to pass from behind which would suggest less comfort level with those three aspects

 

I think he's a worthy 1st round QB prospect, but am not seeing a fit for Callahans comments like you, at least based on college

Yes there is a lot to like. I'm going to do a full write up over the next few days, but he really reminds me of Deshaun Watson coming out of college

 Cristobal and his OC Shannon Dawson are big on playing within the structure of the offense with some deviation. Over the course of the year, Cam improved pretty well on eliminating some hero ball aspects from his game: He started taking check downs, scrambled a bit more, etc. 

 

One of the best things about him is he is very very coachable.

Doing more research last night, I will say Ward has some serious issues with his deep ball accuracy. So much so, I may not be so sure on him. Liked the guy for a year but didn’t have the time to really dig in here. The most accurate deep ball passer is Sanders in this draft. Sanders is such a dbag but could end up being the best QB in this draft.
