They don't have to tell him anything. They spent what amounts to a first round pick on Levis. He wasn't a "lottery" pick like Willis. It would be stupid for the main topic of conversation to be anything BUT building around him...and even more stupid for a HC candidate to talk about doing anything other than that. How much time they give him to develop is still an open question...but they're not going to be as quick to toss him to the curb as some here would think (or want). They're not as committed to him as the Panthers are to Young...but they're definitely committed to him.

The bottom line is they have to put a structure in place for any QB to succeed...whether that's Levis or the next guy. Any of the candidates would know that going in. Obviously Callahan is bought in to it or he wouldn't have been so quick to accept the job and cancel his remaining interviews. If anything it's reasonable to think that at this point Callahan is higher on Levis than he is on Young or he most certainly would have at least waited until the Panthers interview before making his decision.

your kinda saying what I'm saying...

of course you don't throw Levis out the door the minute you walk in but at the same time we ain't married to the guy like say the Panthers are to Young.

my concern is if AAS feels that Levis is the guy and you better make it happen or else... fundamentally I'm worried that she is being overly assertive in that area...maybe not but she is her daddys daughter

Cincinnati averaged fewer PPG under Taylor/Callahan than Tennessee did under Vrabel.

I'm just curious why everyone assumes this is good news for the offense, when his former teams couldn't even reach the bar set by Vrabel with one of the best collection of skill players in the league?

Vrabel's idea of a GM is probably more of like a VP of Player Personnel. A scouting mastermind.

Probably - Carthon's idea of a GM is bigger than that, more managing, relationship building, delegation, more building consensus, consensus decision making, more setting vision and organizational tone.

I'll count that as possibility number 1.

A year ago, Vrabel said he wasn't even ready to be GM.

There are three possibilities.

1. Vrabel was wrong.

2. Ran learns quickly.

3 This is a really bad idea.

It could be some mix of all 3.  I would say it's reasonable to expect Carthon to have grown a lot into the role in year 1.  It seemed very clear he deferred to people who had been here at the start but gradually added new blood like Brinker and Robinson as Asst GM's.

Now as for if it works, time will tell - at least accountability wise we know Ran owns the football product - the personnel, the coaching.

Listening to this interview with Nihill is really selling Ran more than anything. It’s one thing to hear fluff from the mouth piece of an organization but to hear actual personal anecdotes about Ran through this process is another.

Can you link this. Didn't see it posted

You're not really a big picture guy are you?  More one that hyperfocuses on absolutes?  Possibly OCD?
