And Browns are certainly the most dysfunctional organization in the league by a longshot, so no disagreements there. I'm local and it seems like including/keeping Schwartz was a big part of the conversation. I'd imagine JS and Monken both had to be at least comfortable with this kind of arrangement. And I am not sure how much drive Schwartz but behind being the guy, even if his hat was in the ring. The organization really values him and wants him to remain control of the defense. I think there is merit for both of these guys in this spot. What they do with the QB situation is big. A funny side note of all of this is that the news broke on talk radio today because someone tracked Monken moving his horses from Maryland to Ohio. Horsegate turned out to be true. I have heard a lot more in depth discussion of this than I am guessing you have. There has not really been a lot of mentioning of whether or not Schwartz was going to take his ball and go home or would have hurt feelings if it was not him. You did not really see or hear about him interviewing elsewhere. I have not heard anything about him being blocked or trying to go elsewhere. This is not part of the story from the standpoint of (good) local media. You did not really see or hear a lot about him during the interview process. He is under contract. He is popular in this city and effective with this defense. If there is a job opening at your workplace and you go for it and lose out to an external hire, does that automatically mean you quit? Now, it is possible that something might come out about Schwartz having hurt feelings or whatever. But none of that is out there right now. And the dialogue around the hire is that Schwartz was going to be in Cleveland regardless and that coaches who wanted to bring in their own DC might need to kick rocks. I think it is more likely that he is comfortable where he is and with what he is doing, and was open to being paired with the right offensive guy regardless of who is the HC.
