Trade Deadline Discussion

I was listening to a segment on the radio earlier where they brought up the Herschel Walker trade — how the Cowboys moved on from a great player and used that haul of draft picks to rebuild their entire roster.

 

Now, I’m not saying Jeffery Simmons would bring back anything close to that kind of return, but if a team came calling with a 1st-round pick (plus more), I think the Titans would have to at least consider it.

 

We’re 1-5 with Simmons right now. As great as he is, one elite defensive tackle can’t carry a roster that has this many holes. The reality is, we need more good players — not just one or two stars surrounded by below-average depth.

 

Of course, hitting on the draft picks is the key. But if you could turn Simmons — as much as it hurts — into two or three solid starters while gaining cap flexibility, that might be the smarter long-term move for a team that’s clearly in transition

Parsons went for 2 mid 1sts and a run stuffing past his prime NT. Simmons isn't going for that although I think he's a better overall player than Parsons. You aren't getting anywhere close to the Walker trade. That stupid ass Vikings GM got played when he agreed to send a draft pick for each of the 5 players the cowboys traded for if they cut them.

This talk of trading Simmons is dumb. it's just reactionary and people wanting to feel excited and see some big splash. It's not happening. He's the leader of the defense. You don't chop off the head of your team as you're trying to build.

 

I could see Key getting traded though.

any vet who isn't in their plans beyond 2025 should be on the trading block. Guys that are should be extended. I'm real curious what they are going to do with McCreary and Chig. Key is all but gone imo.

Do you have any faith that the current FO will be able to identify and acquire the players they will need to rebuild in such a way?  Every roster addition seems to make things even worse.

This is a good question.  Some of their signings haven’t worked out at all (Jones, Barton. Lockett,).  I was tempted to put Zeitler there too but he is coming back from injury.

Obviously and rightfully so the press conference with Brinker/Borgonzi will be focused on the firing of Callahan but I hope someone in the media uses this opportunity to ask them about potential personnel moves before the trade deadline shuts.

 

This will likely be the last time Brinker/Borgonzi speak before the season ends.

Hopefully the media gets the much needed questions out there since we won’t hear from them until draft day lol

I would be surprised if anyone in this local media group actually takes the opportunity to get some potentially relevant information on the futures of some of these players.
