If the Titans have functional pass blocking OTs in known passing situations then this all works out. The Titans have not been able to drop back in a passing set and give their QB adequate pass blockin

It’s a front loaded deal which is always the best way to structure a big deal

Now Titans have the luxury of having Latham sit and learn behind NPF

ESPN likes the signing:

Titans to sign OT Dan Moore Jr.

The deal: Four years, $82 million ($50 million guaranteed)

Grade: A

We don't know who will play quarterback for the Titans in 2025, but that person will have better pass protection with Moore now on the team.

Moore is coming off a nice season in which he put up career highs in both pass block win rate (93%, 11th best out of 66 qualifiers) and run block win rate (76%, 23rd best). Offensive line can be a place where players take longer to develop, so I'm inclined to invest in Moore's improvement.

That becomes easy to do when considering who else was available on the tackle market. Cam Robinson isn't as good as Moore as a pass protector, Jaylon Moore is unproven and has worse numbers, and Jedrick Wills Jr. has several question marks attached to him. To me, Moore was the one to go with and $20.5 million per year is not top-tier tackle money at all.

Last season, Titans tackles JC Latham (88%) and Nicholas Petit-Frere (82%) ranked 40th and 64th in pass block win rate among tackles. If Latham, their first-round pick in 2023, develops the Titans could have a really nice pair of tackles, which is crucial for setting a quarterback up for success.

CBS does not:

Titans signing Dan Moore Jr.

It's important to shore up the tackle spots. And Tennessee had money to spend. The Steelers let him walk without a second thought, however, and now the Titans are paying him borderline top-five left tackle money. This spells possible trouble.

Grade: C-

I don't know enough to have an opinion on his play yet.  Seems mid tier at best.

But a little sick of this inaccurate way of framing pay, like "borderline top five left tackle money."

If all the tackles on the kick ball playground got picked each year and were paid commensurately then sure would be accurate.  But can't compare contracts for better tackles set up 2-4 years ago to current going market.

Just a BS sportswriter line to stir up readers.

Plus his average salary (20.5m) is tied for 8th highest paid LT.

His average salary is closer to the 15th highest paid LT (18m) than he is to the 5th (23.5m)!

Yeah for some reason people just don’t understand the simple fact that as the cap rises every year so do salaries and well players that hit FA and get signed will always be “overpaid” in a sense.

Didn't the Titans' OL grade surprisingly well in PBWR in 2023 as well (minus LT)?

If he were the 11th best pass blocker, the cost is justified.  But I'm not sure if these numbers are translating IRL.

Steelers fans on Reddit claim their OL coach is horrible. So with Cal Sr maybe it turns out better.

Hopefully, i said from day one even the magic man couldnt turn garbage like npf into a decent player. Bu if the steelers played him over 2 first round picks in a row he has to have somethig these coaches see potential wise.

The biggest news here is that Latham becomes the third top 10 college LT drafted by the Titans that will be playing G or RT

Who gives a shit? I swear there’s some kind of tear in the cosmos where titans report can’t escape 2012 when it comes to offensive line valuation

nah. its just more false narratives by you. No one actually claims RT isn't important or that the game hasn't changed in the last 10 years. LT is stil way more valuable and is a top 3 position when building a team behind QB and EDGE. Of course you take that statement and twist it into meaning RT is useless or that you don't need one that is good in pass protection. Its annoying AF.

Thats what happens over time as more data comes out. I told you last year RT is more important that it used to be but still clearly behind LT. You took the victory lap but then pretend people are still claiming you can roll out garbage at RT in 2025 which can't be further from the truth.
