Give me a HC and coordinators who have done it before.  No rookies.

My thoughts.   I post infrequently nowadays but do want to do so tonight.  I have vacillated with each new entry into the HC/OC sweepstakes.  I studied what I could with available data on ea

FWIW on F Words Zach Lyons just said he heard the interview between McDaniel and the Titans went “very well”.

Where the org is at right now, need stability. Borgo has to be careful or he'll get himself fired in no time. Better to equalize/stabilize and then adjust for ascension if needed.

Or you could hire who you think are going to be the best coaches. Retreads fail too.

I agree, I think you have to hire the best guy.  Borgonzi and Brinker were hired to do a job.  If they think that someone who hasn't been a head coach and has little coordinating experience is the best guy then he needs to be the pick.  Forget optics.  The optics will be better if that guy succeeds than if Matt Nagy or Mike McCarthy is hired and the team doesn't respond to whomever the experienced guy is.

If you were hiring someone, wouldn't their previous experience be a big part of determining who was the best candidate?

its so simple as a someone who doesn't have to make the decision to claim they should def go the inexperienced route.... after all fans jobs aren't on the line.

If the Titans could steal any head coaches from around the league, what would your top 5 list be?  No trade. You can just have them.

Obviously you should not go into the process so laser set on one archetype of coach you are blind to possibilities.

I hope we have a process in place that examines the traits and qualities we need and look for tangible evidence of those things.

If you look at the trajectory of the Jaguars for example, what helped them get from Urban to Pederson to Coen?

There are plenty of "retread" coaches in the NFL that have been successful. The one we let go was one of them. What makes those guys work versus not working?

In this way, I don't necessarily see experience as a trait, more so a way that you get a trait that is helpful or a way to demonstrate you have it.

My experience requirements are HC experience, even if it's been at the college level but also nfl experience as a coordinator.

If there's a guy out there like that, that did a lot with very little... then they hope to the top 5

This would be my mindset, but if a candidate with lesser experience blew me away in the interview, and could prove they could pull in a very respected staff with experienced proven coordinators and position coaches would make me strongly consider them. Just as an example, being able to hire an OL coach like Munch would make me sit up and listen.

I know where you're going with this.  You want someone to say Sean McVay so you can say that he didn't have the requisite experience.  Correct?

Well I assume someone could say McVay/Harbaugh/Payton/Reid/Shanahan where four of those five would fall into the inexperienced category.  That certainly wouldn’t be my top five but I see what you’re trying to get at.

Mine as well. Just really think both guys know how to coach up guys and put them in the right spots to succeed.

What gives you guys evidence of Shula? Most of you all only heard about him in the last 9 months. Outside of his name being Shula and him being a coordinator for McVay, what else about him makes yiu all so high on him? Legitimately asking.
