It's a very complicated system that puts alot of control and stress on the QB. If it works and you have a QB, it's fantastic but it takes a while to master and really leans heavily on the QB. I've always heard that Calli wanted to strip the offense down for Willis, but was told to put his offense in place, which is very qb centric.. Willis can run some basic offenses as we have seen.. I'm guessing stripping the offense back was something he did not want to do, but who knows.

I have no idea, but I'm sure they hope he can last at least until late in the season. Otherwise there's no difference in firing him now vs 2 weeks from now. If it becomes obvious the team has quit on him and morale completely tanks they won't have a choice. rns90

It's just that his ideal offense centers around a very good QB. He just knows he can't always run his ideal offense. W/ Cam, he's able to run what he'd like to run which allows for a lot of control being given to the QB.

Please show me another NFL OC that was an assistant position coach 2 years before they became an OC. Not a position coach, an assistant position coach. That's the equivalent of Payton McCollum on this staff right now. The idea of him being an OC in 2-3 years is laughable. I did last year, find it. Its fairly normal. Deal with it. tgo
Nevermind. I found a few examples @oldschool I can't fathom being in the position of being a head coach and hiring these ridiculously green guys to be your OC just because they are willing to run your system. Josh Grizzard Brad Idzik Grant Udinski Tanner Engstrand These guys are just extraordinarily raw compared to the average OC hire. Anyway, stop bothering me @oldschool - I'm trying to build Matt Nagy's coaching staff for next year on my spreadsheet. bondra316v2
BC can survive losing to at Houston this week, but if Vrabel comes to town week 7 and lays the smack down on a winless team with a coach that has a career record of 3-21 he's not going to make it through the season. AAS will burn it to the ground. Mythos27

Why would Callahan give a shit about tailoring an offense for Willis when Levis was already the entrenched starter and Willis traded the packers before the season last year? japan

He hired a nobody tagalong as his OC. Bullshit the FO and ownership aren't embarrassed and feel one way or another that the experiment has been such a failure that they have to correct course for him. Love you bud but I call bullshit. Hey, I agree that they can't be happy about how it's worked out so far. It's surely embarrassing and I'm sure internal conversations are happening about whether he's the guy. What I'm getting at is that I really don't think that him calling plays was a condition of his employment. I think had he decided to hire someone else to call plays from the beginning, the brass would not have been bothered by it. In short, it's a big deal because it's a very public failure, not so much because it's such a core tenet of why they hired him. Him calling plays had to be well outside of the top 10 reasons they hired him because he'd never done it before and there were no real indications he would be great at it. If they hired him expecting an amazing play caller then they're bigger idiots than he is. titanruss, and oldschool 1

Staring at 3 consecutive road games with 2 on the west coast. Any interim coach would be likely be doomed trying to right the ship at this particular time. tgo
Maybe we just let the Callahans flounder and fail throughout the season and keep throwing people overboard, all the while stacking losses in the marathon of Pain for Bain. titanskick8851, and Supernope 1
