I'm not trying to argue with an NFL HC, but the rule is two feet or any other part of the body with control of the ball is a catch. Isn’t that basically the same as “ one knee equals two feet” as John Madden used to say? IsntLifeFunny

Callahan could have coasted into 2026 with little effort. Don't look incompetent and avoid disaster. After week 1, total fail. The HC spot is almost a figurehead or political position. All the fan talk about "play calling" and X's and O's are beyond comical. These teams all use mostly the same concepts and strategies. The guys who have a good QB and talent look smart and when they don't they look like idiots. Millions of examples, Arthur Smith looked like an idiot over his head until week 7 of 2019, then he was smart. Callahan's presser had a Ran Carthon look to it. It would have been super easy to talk his way out of everything that happened Sunday. The lack of ability to do that is as alarming as on the field issues. The Titans were already a bad team who was going to have to fight to win 6-7 games. The reason is because they have a rookie QB and a bad roster. But Callahan has managed to make it about whether he's capable of not. From here to the rest of the season every decision is going to be under a microscope. He took away the legit excuses they had for being a bad team. He's created an uphill battle to keep his job he didn't have to have. I'll say this........JJ McCarthy looked terrible in the first half and some of the second half last night. What do we credit for his turn around to win that game? Was it Kevin McConnell and his play calling? Did he change some things to help his young QB? Whatever he did is what I would like to see Callahan do. My takeaway is Kevin McConnell is one hell of a coach that makes a difference in his team. He is far from a figure head. I think Cam would have a Jayden Daniels type year with a coach like Kevin McConnell.

ZEPPELIN
In the last 9 drives of the game, we had -4 yards. Thus wasn't Callahan's first game. He was a bad hire (again) and if we had any competence in the front office, they would have realized their mistake and moved on to probably their next mistake. How about an OC with some legit experience? Been a while. Number9
Nash
I'm hoping for improvement in game 2 and throughout the season..last season, Calli was the OC, and IMO really didn't do much with regards to defense or ST's.. those problems look a lot better, though I wonder if Sneed being in at the end of the 2nd quarter and different clock management would have mattered.. Now we need to see improvement in the offense.. whether it's the process, or the calls themselves or if it was first game jitters, I can't tell but there needs to be improvement. titansfan
I think Callahan will at least lock in and the team will be more prepared. Hes shown that he bounces back from awful outings. However every game can't be a referendum on Cally. That in itself is a sign that he cant be relied upon Justafan

No, he lost the game. 10 points directly off his poor coaching choices as well he didn't challenge a clear catch that moves the chains. He affected the score board multiple times with bad decision making. But yes, it is an uphill battle to keep his job, because he just embarrassed the organization and fans week 1 and is a running meme. You constantly commented about how Vrabel's offensive philosophy cost them in the postseason. Now all offenses are exactly the same? Andy Reid and Kyle Shanahan are no different than Todd Downing? Coaches are hired for their playcalling ability. Not to be a glorified cheerleader. This is a completely outdated and incorrect assessment. I pointed out at that time in 2019 that the offense was far too difficult on the QB, and Tannehill overperformed to an unsustainable degree. That's why it didn't work with Mariota. While Smith's offense was successful yesterday because of the play design, not Rodgers. Any decent QB would have performed well. The advanced numbers back both of these claims up, and you can see on tape the difference in receiver separation, air yards of the throws, etc. The statistics comparing what that QB is required to do is now compiled and compared to every QB in the NFL. We don't really have to make broad claims or assumptions about whether or not the coach is helping or hurting the QB, or vice versa - the numbers are right there. And the numbers typically show that the good coaches are making the job of their QB significantly easier than Cam Ward's yesterday. I don't think Amy will handle getting embarrassed by Houston well. Houston will play a part, but the bigger deal is going to be if Cally hangs on until week 6 and Vrabel comes back to Nashville and bitch slaps the Titans. That happens and Cally is fired in the locker room.

It would have been super easy to talk his way out of everything that happened Sunday. The lack of ability to do that is as alarming as on the field issues. The press conference was a much bigger red flag than anything he did during the game. I strongly disagree with how he handled the end of the first half, but I can at least understand what he was trying to do. He's not the first coach to take a calculated risk that failed. I also don't blame him for not challenging the Ayomanor catch. He's relying on guys in the booth to both know the rules and judge whether a play is worth risking a challenge. Clearly they failed...and that in and of itself is a major concern. But in the moment I wouldn't expect Callahan to overrule them. By far the bigger issue is going up to the podium after the game and making it obvious to the world that a HC who's spent his entire career on the offensive side of the ball does not even know what constitutes a legal catch. There's no way to hide that fact. I'm sure he knows the rule now, but he absolutely did not during his press conference. It's not like that's some obscure special teams rule that pretty much never comes up. It's what I would think is a pretty well known rule. I knew it. Hell, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. knew it. So now a valid question is...what other "obvious" football knowledge does he (or apparently anyone on his staff) not know? It's hard to imagine the players are not thinking "how the fuck did a DB know the rule and the entire offensive coaching staff didn't?" There's no way that didn't at minimum plant seeds of doubt with the players. I'm on record saying they need to be patient with Callahan and stop the revolving door of coaches/GMs. As bad as Sunday was there are still 16 games left to climb out of the hole he's dug for himself. But Sunday absolutely raised red flags and has reset my default mindset from "hopeful until you prove you can't do it" to "doubtful until you prove you can do it." While Ward's average depth of target was 11 yards and he threw the ball at 2.9 second on average- against the #1 pass rush. Unsurprisingly, Dan Moore performed much better against Denver in 2024 under Arthur Smith, allowing only 1 pressure. A good coach makes a big difference! It's pretty funny seeing a counter narrative happen here because some of us wanted him fired in the offseason and in week one he completely shit the bed. I said in the offseason it was good to see him get Bones in here while admitting his fault. It gave me some hope. All of that hope was strangled on Sunday. He looked completely overwhelmed, no way around it. He was conservative every time it was strategic to be aggressive and vice versa. He fucked up the challenge and didn't even know the rule. He's an idiot as far as I'm concerned. bondra316v2, and Justafan
