You're speculating that Callahan getting the calls in late is having that effect. Callahan getting the calls in late is a fact; the idea that this is causing the OL to become frantic and make physical errors after the snap is pure speculation on your part. You can see the difference, right? Btw, want to know one of the reasons Callahan cited for the offense having less time at the LOS pre-snap? The players taking too long to get in and out of the huddle. I'm saying that the effect or lack thereof is unclear without speculation and now I'm adding that the players are potentially partially responsible. I'm also saying that the person most responsible for Dan Moore playing like shit last Sunday is Dan Moore. I think both are reasonable things to say.

It’s not speculation. I figured what I was saying was common sense lol. It has a massive effect.

I'm pretty pissed that Callahan called for a Pollard fumble, 8 drops, and our Tackles to get beat like drums. Horrible game planning.

No one can accuse this staff of not doing enough to curtail penalties in the off-season and yet they were even worse than last year. If we're using logic then even if what the coaches tried was completely ineffective the team should have been at WORST equally as bad as last year but instead they were worse. To put most of this on the coaches is asinine IMO. No one coached Brownlee to interfere damn near every time he's targeted.

It's almost as if, assuming this team is going to improve over last year, it's going to take time to get better.

None of that points to whether the lateness is on the coach or the players. It just makes the point that being later in getting the play off makes the timing more predictable for the defense. But was the coach actually late getting the play in to the huddle or were the players late getting out of the huddle?

If it were on Cam being slow, I sure hope Callahan would step in and correct it. We’ve seen a track record across 3 QBs now though.

Regardless that’s on the coach to recognize it’s a deficiency that affects performance. The guy didn’t even know the body part is 2 feet rule so I doubt he’d be nuanced enough to know your EPA drops as the clock ticks lower and lower.

Congrats you convinced me on this point .  If it’s on these guys getting late out of the huddle , I have a tendency to not blame as much on Callahan.

And yeah, Dan Moore isn’t very good is kind of being underplayed here.  Add in a hobbling /bad RT situation (injury and …talent in terms of Udoh) and it’s easy to understand why we sucked.

Now I don’t think Callahan necessary did the best (no defending the halftime sequence or the lack of quicker passes) but maybe it’s 50-50 in terms of assessing blame.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

I guess that's where I was getting at. No one is absolving the players for the penalties, the lack of execution, or the drops. Those contributed significantly to the loss.

However, those are things that happen in every game and you live with the results. What doesn't happen every game is the coach spots the other team 10 points because of his incompetency and then doesn't understand a basic rule.

I'm not handwaving, I'm saying that I don't know what the coach is doing wrong or if he's even doing something wrong. The results on their own are not conclusive evidence of wrong-doing by the coach. The difference between us is that you think you know even though you can't articulate it and what you think you know just so happens to align with your desire to see Callahan gone. Occam's razor to me is that Dan Moore is at best a decent left tackle who was over-matched against one of the best pass rushers in the league. There is no speculation needed for that. Your stance is total speculation and not even really grounded in anything you can prove. When Lewan got completely packed up vs Chandler Jones week 1 of 2021 did everyone blame Vrabel?

The fact about half our pass attempts had the ball snapped at one second should give you a huge indicator of why Moore went from 1 hurry to 7. It doesn't mean that's the only reason, but I bet says if you went back and watched the Broncos Steelers game last year that wouldn't be the case.

I'm not arguing just to argue. I'm saying normally you would be right, but in this instance there are several clear and identifiable situations throughout the game where the team was put in position to fail directly because of Callahan.

Edit: I see above Callahan laid that situation on the players. I call bullshit. He had the same exact problem last year.

One potential reason for Watt’s anticipation? The play clock, which ticked down to only one second at the time of the snap. With such little time left, Watt seemed to time the snap and gain an edge on the Colts’ offensive line.

This skill is not unique to Watt – using Next Gen Stats tracking data, defensive ends typically reach speeds that are 10% faster with one second left (16 MPH) on the play clock, relative to 10 seconds left (14 MPH).

Not putting OL at a major disadvantage though! It’s all those scrubs faults!

And apparently he's now blaming players for getting in and out of the huddle too slow lol. Why don't I see other teams having this problem? Couldn't be on the shoulders of the guy who has never called plays or been a HC until he was handed the role? Nah, more likely it's on the team full of players who have been playing ball since they were 8.

Someone said it up thread that Callahan mentioned the players when asked about the game clock winding down.

I still haven't been able to find that exact quote, but it sounded like the problems with the play calls getting in late were because they were using a silent count.

Idk if that is exactly blaming the players so much as pointing out a general problem.
