You simply have to buy the idea that his Pro Day testing was impacted by injury.  On film, he doesn't look THAT slow but he certainly is more of a Welker/Edelman type of slot guy.

he immediately came out after the pro day and said he was competing with a hammy that hadn’t fully recovered.  I know players may fabricate things to cover their asses but his game speed is a lot better than his timed speed.

He might as well be a bonus draft pick, so I’m giving him his own thread   https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Xavier-Restrepo-WR-Miami

Brain: He's a UDFA. It's worth a shot and costs basically nothing. Probably never does anything and likely doesn't even make the 53.   HEART: STEAL OF CENTURY. WARD AND RESTREPO CANTON BOUND

He may have. 4.8 is what some OL or DL ran at the combine. He definitely looks faster than some big fatty in game vids.

Welker reportedly ran a 4.65, which seems more in line with what Restrepo looks like. For further context, Cooper Kupp ran it in 4.62, point being that not having blazing speed isn't the end of the world for a guy at all

Had to he more then a subpar 40 time for a team to not want to even spend a 7th round flyer.

No idea if this is legit but it was all I could find.  If true he's the opposite of explosive.   Doesn't mean it won't work but I'm not sure we should hinge too much on it.

He’s not an elite athlete (better than his testing shows still), especially in terms of straight line speed, but his film shows he gets open. He’s also pretty bulky for a slot receiver.

It certainly could be some BS with some guys. I don't think Restrepo's FOS though. Before the 40 time, I would've thought he was a 4.5-4.6 guy. He doesn't look 4.8 slow. I think this could be a really nice UDFA gem. He might be one of those guys like Chrebet, Amendola, etc who hangs around awhile and is a "trust the tape" find.

Assuming Restrepo shows enough to make it into the rotation, which I have little doubt he eventually will, his lack of top end speed won't matter if/when Ridley, Lockett/Dike, and Gunnar Helm are taking their own fair share of focus of defenses with them. XR will have plenty of opportunity across the middle.

Obviously there's a little hype/hopium in what I just typed, but that seems to be the goal/ideal outcome.
