One of his problems is that he knows very, very little about the issues in depth. So he only talks in broad platitudes with a lot of lies mixed in. Once he's forced to discuss an issue in depth he's either exposed or his policies are wildly unpopular. That only leaves him personal attacks for the most part and that's not working out very well.
