Bit mo' from the Mayo Messiah...

"For me, for one, it's about getting healthy, which I am close to now, which is a great feeling. Having my body feel this way and as good as it has in 25 weeks or so is really cool. And, I am looking forward to just getting my athleticism back a little bit, getting my legs back, and just being able to be more of a (complete) player than I was this past year."

Turns out it's easier to hire quality assistants if you're not a control freak dickhead.

Callahan just said Wilson will have complete control and autonomy over the defense.

Just random thought here but doesn't it seem somewhat odd that Callahan has not hired one assistant from Cincy since he's been there longer than anywhere.  Almost all of his offensive hires are connections (father excluded) from his Denver or the Raiders/HS jobs.

I assume BC probably has a lot of respect for Taylor and didn’t want to gut his staff.

This. I understand everyone's interest in the HC hire. It's decides the direction of the team on a mainstream level.

But some of you freaking out over an OC when he won't even call plays and position coaches when you don't know shit except what WIKI says is mind boggling.

There's too much we don't know to go crazy like this. Only be worried if they hire a LB coach to be a QB coach or something.

I never got the furor over the OC stuff either.  He seemed qualified maybe not the most exciting hire but it's not they hired a DL coach as an OC or something.

I would disagree with you on he position coaches (non qb) though. You can usually tell if the position the guy coaches gets his pupils a lot of money in terms of FA contract or big extension with his original team.  That tells me he's a good coach and to get excited about it.

The concern over the OC is more based in the thin resume aside from the HS tie and the fact so many people touted how critical the non play calling OC was in Callahan's case in Cincy but then turned around and claimed it's a non-issue here since Callahan is the play calling HC......

The QB coach is pretty meh.  Not crazy about the lineage nor track record developing young QB's.

The defensive side is where it's funny.  Wilson is new and has a seemingly good pedigree and he and the position coaches are basically Gregg William's disciples from the Rams and Jets.  The kicker is that people are jacked about Bush and Jackson as the LB and DB coaches yet both were already in TEN in those roles under Munchak and Mularkey regimes.

The big fish is obviously Callahan Sr and banking on Callahan the HC to be a McVay/Shanny type offensive mind.  If so, the meh staff hires don't matter as much.  If Callahan is more of a Zach Taylor type, he better get his Burrow.

100% right

So anybody can have a great game with amazing throws, but were the amazing throws because of amazing decisions or in spite of bad decisions?

How much of Levis' decision making was on the positive or negative side of the line this year?

I think most of Levis really impressive throws were good decisions,  I think many of his bad decisions were incomplete albeit he did have a couple of horrid INT's.

Callahan was a big success in his position as non play calling OC. So now Holz gets his opportunity. I don’t get what the issue is.

The OL, WRs, and QB positional coaches all have more direct experience as an OC, and all would have on paper looked more ready to be our OC than Holz.

And yet, Callahan hired Holz as OC and the rest as positional coaches.

He clearly hired him for a reason, especially since Callahan was previously in that role and knows better than anyone (especially fans) what exactly it entails.
