Bud on suicide watch

I'm still holding out hope Austin or San Antonio can swoop in at the last minute!

Mendes isn’t a lost vote either. He voted no in December.

I don’t live in TN or follow Nashville politics these days. Mendes has been generous with my family for years, though, preceding his involvement in electoral politics. What’s his reputation in Nashville?

I hate his law firm and one of his law partners (long story) therefore I hate him. So I’m probably biased.

Real talk Mendes is a smart guy who loves to hear himself talk (typical lawyer). What he missed with his 10 page memo of run on sentences. The new deal takes $0 from the general fund. The existing deal takes $760 million (at minimum per him) and likely over a billion from the general fund. That’s reason enough for me to vote for the new stadium.

What's the deal here?  The Linked 10 page report is full of interesting info.

I read this mostly as a call to seriously reassess whether a renovation is a better use of resources than a full rebuild. Also Mendes accurately pointed out that these new taxes, parking spaces, the 500 million the state is kicking in, etc are colossal sums of tax payer money going into this deal.

Bud must be slipping, that story is 2 days old. He usually pounces on anything that might indicate it's not a done deal. The current mayor isn't running for reelection and lots of local pols are postitioning themselves for a run, probably what's behind this.

These new taxes (hotel/motel tax) don’t exist without the stadium deal. The TN legislature approved the increase in hotel/motel tax only if it’s used for the stadium. It’s not like metro can use those taxes for other ventures.

It’s still taxpayer funds going towards the adams family regardless of the semantics of the taxes founding. Also locals spend money downtown as well.

Thought it was really disingenuous to also factor in Nashville's tax contribution share of the Memphis sports money under the assumption the only reason that was being funded was because of the Titians money. The closest model to a Nissan reno would be the Miami reno and there are plenty who openly feel that reno was a waste because it's already become out of date when compared with newer stadiums.

In the end, the only thing that makes a new stadium a good deal is that the city being forced to pay for renovating the old stadium is much worse.

Taxpayer money is going to them regardless. The question is do you want it coming from the general fund or from dumb ass woo girls coming for their bachelorette parties?
