Derrick Henry’s path to the 2019 Rushing Title(UPDATE: Henry wins it.)

With 6 games left to play in the 2019 season, Derrick Henry currently ranks 10th in the league with 832 Rushing yards. I thought it would be fun to track the race for the rushing crown because Henry is very much in the mix. Here is the current top 10. 
 

1. McCaffery-1059

2. Cook- 1017

3. Chubb- 1011

4. Jacobs-923 

5. Mack-862

6. Fournette 854

7. Carson 853

8. Hyde 836

9. Zeke 833

10. Henry 832

 

As you can see 5-10 is very jumbled with the difference between 5 and 10 only being 30 yards. The hardest guys to catch will be the top 4. But looking at these numbers, you have to keep in mind that Mack(5) Is currently out with a broken hand and Chubb(3) is now splitting carries with Kareem Hunt. Also Cook(2), Hyde(8), and Mack(5) have played 11 games already so they only have 5 games remaining. 
 

227 yards behind the 1st spot, here is how many more YPG Henry will have to average to catch each guy in front of him. For the guys who only have 5 games left, I have put how many yards Henry needs THIS WEEK to catch them.  

1. McCaffrey-38YPG

2. Cook- 185 Yards

3. Chubb-29.8YPG

4. Jacobs-15.2YPG

5. Mack-30 Yards

6. Fournette-3.7YPG

7. Carson-3.5YPG 

8. Hyde- 4 Yards

9. Zeke 0.16YPG (only 1 yard behind him)

 

let’s look at the Rush defenses Henry will be facing this week Vs the others. 
 

1. McCaffrey-NO-85.3 (3rd)

2. Cook- BYE

3. Chubb-MIA-148.3 (31st)

4. Jacobs- NYJ-79.1YPG (1st)

5. Mack-Game Played

6. Fournette-TEN- 102.5 (13th)

7. Carson- PHI- 86 (4th)

8. Hyde- Game Played

9. Zeke- NE 97.3 (10th)

10. Henry- JAX 134.6(29th)

 

Looks like a prime week for Henry to make a nice jump on this list if he keeps his momentum going.

Henry has more value than people realize. He's built to dominate during this time of the year and the playoffs.  He's huge, fast, durable, and relentless.  I personally wouldn't want to have anything to do with stopping him in cold weather conditions after double digit games .

 

I think that we've overlooked Henry correcting his tendency to bounce runs outside.  He seems to be improving as a football player .  And he's probably the best physical specimen in the league. 

 

Every college/HS team should move their biggest/fastest player to RB.  That could be the recipe for success/longevity in the NFL.

I said before the season with Vrabel's philosophy and Henry turning the corner last year winning the rushing title was very possible

BTW, historically winning the rushing title means little in terms of the team contending, in facts it's often a bad team.

Cook just might be the best of the best, he just doesn't get the exposure of the other guys and he's on a team with an elite receiver corps and they like to spread the touches around.

He's such a stud. One of the few I would throw Henry away for and never look back. I knew he was a good player but he's looked surreal this year.
