It doesn't look like a good upcoming OL FA class so it is likely going to require draft capital either via trade this season of in the 2027 Draft to start fixing this problem long term. And I think he does Yeah, him not being a lock is the reason almost every "lock" would not be one... just complete and utter collapse into a shit show. It's possible but unlikely. People from camp today were saying that he looked like the #2 reciever and got the reps/attention of it. The WR room is set barring Ridley not being back to speed from his injury. He just explains his answers with an authority that says this is what we are going to do. He's not cocky, he just simply explains what is happening. He loves Daboll and the offense Daboll is installing. He doesn't blame his teammates, but puts the reason for faults on his shoulders. Players play hard for him because he'll take the heat, not say "well JC is having trouble with the playbook" or we've been having trouble with that. He explains the variance in the plays, 1,2,3 with targets at multiple levels, responses to defenses and scramble drills that are in the system. He knows where the ball is supposed to go and it sounds like everyone's on the same page. It isn't easy for a 24yo to step out in front of the media and answer questions so fluidly. I think both will be key parts of this team as rookies, and Hill will be a tackling machine out there. He won't get DROY, but only because that always goes to a pass rusher, it seems. But I think his stats will mean that he should be in the conversation. Tate should be WR 1 from the get, even if Ridley returns to form. I'm actually hoping Ridley DOES look good. Then we'd have that Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith type combo that would make Ward look great. Of course, our offense depends almost completely on whether this OL can improve. No offense man but your hatred for him sounds a lot more like you think people are trying to pit him against Tate. They arent. Tate clearly has better hands and is the obviously the better receiver, more polished, more consistent, and from a better pedigree / background.... but you're completely forgetting that Ayo put up better total college numbers in 15 less games (with Ashton Daniels throwing him the ball) and his measurements say he's the most physically gifted WR we have. Ayo was a 1000 yard receiver at a big school and made the 2nd overall pick and inter-division rival look like garbage. So... just mayyyybe he's got some talent and there should be some recognition and PATIENCE there. I also think you are completely ignoring the magnitude of the dogshit situation last year. The rookies were all pretty incredible given the circumstances and will all be much better this year solely because of that experience. Van fucking Jefferson was once an 800 yard 6TD receiver and he got beat out by the rookies. You see that as Van being awful... but it could also be that they won against a vet by their own merits. They also cut Tyler Lockett because the rookies were beating him too - and he went to go start for another (bad) NFL team after he left here. Both rookies had significantly LOWER drop rates than Ridley last year and Ridley took a paycut so he wouldnt get cut. Highly possible he's lower on the depth this year than we think. League average was 4.4%. Ayo was 5.6%... 1 pass per 100 att more, Thats it. We talked about that a few days ago. The emotion of the drops makes them feel like there was more from him than there actually were. Dike was limited because he was also very raw and not that great of a college WR. It doesnt mean he cant or wont be great and develop. Nor does his All-Pro return skills automatically translate to good WR play this season. So maybe.. just maybe consider that we had talented ROOKIE Wrs, who beat out NFL Vets, catching that ball from a Rookie QB, against one of the hardest defensive schedules in 2 decades, and were lead by an in-over-his head idiotic coach that got fired early in the season to be replaced by inept coaches no one else wants that didnt even know how to do presnap motion. And furthermore, Cam trusts him a lot. My bet is that its Tate-Ayo-Robinson to start the season.
