Because they don't pay attention to what is actually going on.

It's been baffling to me to see $70 million continuously reported with such obvious missing pieces. It's $35-$45 million in cap space, which is still good but massively different from $70 million.

With ~$40 million available and gaping holes at RG and C, I would imagine Borgonzi feels confident about an IOL deal that he has in place. Since Day 1 on the job Borgonzi has said protection is the first priority on offense. This would be totally out of character to leave the OL as-is.

Unquestionably the #1 priority right now.

Step 1.....draft a high quality OG in the 2nd and at least get that position in good hands and fixed for the next 4 years.  The team doesn't need two weak spots next to each other on the OL,

Maybe Slater steps up at C.  Maybe they hedge their bets with an OC in the 3rd or 4th.  Who knows?  But the biggest overall problem on this roster is those two spots on the OL.  Everything else can survive a year with a bandaid.  But if the OL can't function, the whole offense goes down.

Either the C or RG needs to be a hardened battle tested veteran can't have both as inexperienced starters.

I'm totally fine if Borgonzi trades back from #35 and positions himself to take Pregnon, Bisontis or Rutledge as a long term answer at RG.

Closer to $40ish million once you factor in all the unaccounted for signings, Ridley's restructure and the upcoming draft class.

Both sites have us at 58ish, that would be 69 with Ridley's "restructure".

Take out 13mil for rookies and we are down to 56

Tony adams (2m safe guess)

Malik herring (2m safe guess)

Jake martin (2 years 11mil)

Jerrick reed (2m safe guess)

Joey slye (3m safe guess)

13-15m total

That would put us aroujd 41-43m maybe a little more if those guys end up cheaper.

Subtract 15-20 for in season reserve and we have 21-28 to spend.

For anyone who wanted it laid out a little better.

The problem is there is no vet center or really good immediate starter at OC in the draft.  And OG is the easiest to fix in the draft with several at 35 or even small trade down.

I don't see a good vet/rookie combination unless you bring back Zeitler and then you are still looking for an OG in 2027 after spending 8M or so on him this year.

Disagree.  I think we draft Slater for this. We also have some back up IOL depth.  I think this concern is way overblown. Biggest weakness on Team now is LB CB and WR. There will be solid IOL in 3-5 rounds

Like what I saw from Slater last year but the thought of starting a rookie next to him is scary. Not a great strategy to help or develop a young QB, which is what they’ve said they want to do.

Volson is a much better player than Schlottman I think, assuming he is fully recovered medically.

I don’t know much about him. From what I’ve read he’s a high level backup and not a starter who struggles with pass protection. If that’s the plan, I feel even worse about it.
