No idea where this nugget fits so thought it might worth starting a thread for all Titans non HC offseason discussion.   This was meant to happen last offseason but Sweat never showed up so

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

That’s a lot of hooch

Why would signing a guy like Chestnut have any effect on the draft? He's a ST back-up guy.

They're just meme-ing.

Titans ain't drafting a RB w/two serviceable backs on the roster. Pollard has a cap hit of 9.25M. Signing Love would put them in for $17M+ at running back, and they desperately need help in other places. Absolutely no shot Don B drafts JL in the top 10.

oh ok thought you guys were losing your mind for a second.

If we were to draft Love, isn't it automatic that Pollard would be cut? Not saying this is going to happen, but the "Pollard is so expensive we wouldnt possibly draft Love" doesn't make sense to me.

Personally, I thought it was crazy that Love would go that high before I learned much about him. Now I'm warming up a bit to the idea. But maybe that's the point. If he's not a no-brainer , can't miss dominate RB then why would you draft him at 4? Love doesn't seem to be that. Didn't really hear a ton about him during the season. Admittedly I really only focus on the SEC but Notre Dame has a lot of press exposure and it just seems like we would have heard more hype all year long if he was a generational RB talent.

Honestly none of the guys that are likely to be available at 4 seem like great value. If we could get a really good trade offer it seems like a no-brainer to move down in the first.

The Titans seem to hang on to bums like Chestnut more than any other team in the league. Probably not, but it sure seems like it. We almost erected Donnie Nickey a statue!

Every team has guys they keep around because they are cheap and can compete for a bottom of the roster job.

And presumably they wouldn’t have bothered bringing him back if Bones didn’t think he was any good on ST

You don't cut Pollard in my opinion. You use him as the plow horse and change of pace back when we go under center and into our 3 TE package. You don't take a guy like Love and start banging his head into the wall. You use Pollard for that.

Next year you sign a complimentary RB or draft one. What you don't do is go into the season with Spears as the backup. The point of drafting Love is to help elevate Cam and the offense. Cutting Pollard means you're forcing Love into being used like CJ.

oh look... more overly simplistic thinking. These kinds of things are just boring and not worth discussing.

It's not about intangibles of the player per se. It's about strategy and being able to more easily predict or even dictate what the defense does which makes them easier for a good QB to beat.

Lol...just because things are simple, doesn't mean they are wrong or not worth discussing...unless, of course, they can't be refuted, which is clearly the case here.

As far as dictating the defense, you think Love is going to come in a totally change the way defenses look at us?  I guess if that's your thought based on watching him play, then fair enough.  I suspect that's what the plan was for Jeanty last year for LV, and now they have the #1 overall.

The fact is, there are few RBs that dictate anything to a defense, and even those that do, have little success.  The only back that you might argue does that and has had success is Barkley, and that was alongside an amazing defense, and with receivers that could make me look like a decent QB.  Henry obviously dictated a lot and has yet to win shit.  I don't see Love being either of those guys, but if you do, then fine.

Being able to handle a massive target share in any specific game over a season and it happens multiple times a season.

Bijan, Saquan, and McCaffery are those RBs right now.

So, Saquan's 2k season he has 33 receptions on 43 targets for 278 yards.

CJ's namesake season he has 50 receptions on 71 targets for 503 yards.

Greater "target share" and greater receiving yards.  Yet, he doesn't "take over a game."

I mean, I get that.. but to completely discount a great player because they never won a Super Bowl is a silly expectation.

People do that all the time though.  The goal is to win the SB...if we are just bringing in a player to be 'great' we end up with the CJ2K Jeff Fisher situation where we are more concerned with obtaining stats than winning games.  I don't want to ever see that again.

You got them spending 20M on RB in 2026?  There’s has got to be a better use of cap space on a replaceable position like RB.

Lord. I'm not doing this with you. CJ's 2k season was his outlier. In 2 more full seasons with no injuries he's 400 yards behind Saquan, who missed an entire season.

You're mixing up arguments, disingenuously in my opinion. CJ was never a big component of the passing game except screens and dump offs. As I've said repeatedly that doesn't mean he wasn't capable of more. I've literally argued the opposite.

If you genuinely don't see the way those backs have been deployed I don't know what to tell you.

What we really need to do is load up on RBs.  Keep Pollard and Spears, draft Love, and then sign a FA or two.  Then we can sporadically run all of them and really dictate to the defense.  Might as well trade Cam too for future picks so we can draft more RBs!
