Had a hip injury. That he played through clearly when he wasnt ready.
Had his coach and offensive line coach leave mid season.
Had really good flashes.

Hopefully this year we don't hear any more reports of him being called out by team verterans for his poor practice habbits.

I remember it. He was a completely different prospect from a smaller school. He put up gaudy numbers beating up guys in the MAC. He was medicore with his route running and quite a few drops if i remember correctly. He also had like 500 targets in college so idk how bad the drops were on a percentage basis. 

 

I could say the Davis pick has you and others scared of drafting a wr who isn't celebrated as a cant miss prospect. 

 

Nothing wrong with wanting a safe pick. We wouldnt have drafted ward if we wanted the safe pick yhough. Sometimes rolling the dice is the best option.

Tatum is a trade back guy......if it works out....... fine.

Who was the other WR in the draft?  not Mike Williams.  The other WR, I think it was John Ross.

 

Not a draft expert but all I remember just being “eh” in regards to Davis.  I mean he wasn’t a stiff or anything , he just seemed like another WR.  Neither good nor bad.

The production was off the charts. I know he set the record for receiving back then, Idk if it still stands. His actual tape was like you said, so/so. He looked like a number 2 wr in a wr 1's body.

If they could trade back and still get tate id be ecstatic. I could see any of the teams between us and KC drafting him and I would be shocked if he got past them. Especially with whats going on with rice and kelce reaching the end of his career. They need a sure handed guy and tate is that guy in this draft.

Yeah corey Davis was like the most prolific college receiver of all time but it was at a small school. 

 

6'3" 210-215 long arms.

Outstanding four-year production. Alpha attitude on the field and not afraid to take on the challenge of heavy target load. Excellent competitiveness. Focuses like a laser when ball is in the air. Tracks the deep ball as well as anyone in college and understands how to stack cornerbacks and keep them on his hip. Has second gear to run under the long ball. Excels in intermediate and deep parts of the field. Route running showed improvement in 2016. Variable route speed creates indecision for defenders. Vertical routes are crisp and create tilt in off-corners and safeties that he is quick to take advantage of. Play speed features access to functional burst. Can defeat inside leverage. A quarterback's friend who works aggressively back to the ball. Dominates in red zone. High-point catcher who uses well-timed leaps and long arms to win the 50-50 throws. Increases physicality and acceleration out of routes when operating near paydirt.

 

Weaknesses

Doesn't always sell his vertical routes aggressively enough to make cornerbacks open their hips. Drifts, at times, on in-breaking routes, allowing defenders to squeeze the route. Needs to improve quickness into and out of his breaks underneath. Elongated into breaks when working from slot. Has had some issues with focus drops on throws outside of his frame. Had 16 drops over last three years at Western. Free releases into his routes in college will turn into stern press challenges in the pros. Wasn't asked to do much meaningful blocking."

He had ankle surgery and couldn't workout for teams before the draft  He probably lost some athletism after the injury unfortunately but his highlights reels were insane in college.

Yeah i remember drafting him. I also don't remember who I wanted in that draft. I think I wanted TJ Watt and couldnt believe he fell so far. 

 

I remember wanting to upgrade our G, DL,  and WR but I dont remember liking anyone other than Watt.

Never go off highlight reels. Its the difference between malachi fields being a first round pick or a 3rd.

There was a pretty spirited debate here between Corey Davis, Jamal Adams and Marshon Lattimore. Some even were calling for Reuben Foster.

I want to say Lattimore was the favorite by a small margin. I was a lurker back then and trying to quantify that even when it was recent would have been pretty hard though. 

 

I could also be miss remembering because so many people swore up and down they wanted lattimore a year or two later when davis wasn't looking like the savior at wr.
