Popular Post titanruss
Exposure garners fans. Not as much as winning.. but exposure is a definite factor. Getting exposure brings fans ... which brings revenue and merch sales... which gives individual teams the ability to spend more on facilities and coaches and development in order to be more competitive. Its stupid that Dallas gets 6-7 primetime games. They are no longer relevant and havent really been in 30 years. They gain a TON of fans just because they are on TV so much. IMO smaller teams should sue the league. I think they could have a case. Mandate a minimum 2 primetime games per team. And a maximum number of primetime games. Every team should have to play on a Thursday at least once and every team should get a Monday or Sunday night game. There's at least 54 prime time games per season. 108 team slots. If every team gets 2 games for sure (every team - good bad or average), then that leaves 44 team slots/ 22 games for the league and networks to pump up and promote whomever they want. I think it also has to do with the individual power of the individual owners. Are the Falcons really a team that draws millions of more eyeballs than the Titans or Browns to the point where the revenue amount is significantly affected? Hard for me to believe that. However, it's very easy for me to see that the owner of the Falcons is also the co-founder of a huge corporation that is one of the largest NFL sponsors and pumps hundreds of millions into the league's revenues every year. And also easy to see that Bud Adams and his family have historically been cheap as fuck and don't do jack shit. And then of course you have Jerry Jones and the Rooney, Mara, and Kraft families. No way in hell they get less than 3-4 primetime games every season no matter how shitty their teams are. The Patriots last year I believe only got one. The Falcons in general don’t get a lot of primetime games. Sometimes it’s just random. But they can’t say nonsense like they have to play their way into primetime games when teams like Dallas are on five times every year regardless of record the year before. PK and Buck both used to have that stance and have since come around to say that it doesnt matter if the Titans are good for several years in a row, the league hates having to promote them. kgsTitan
This team has flat stunk for nearly 3 years, are expected to stink this year, and have zero big-name players. Ward may change that, but as of now, I wouldn't schedule them in primetime either. When Henry left, the teams marketability went with him. If they can get to somewhere even close to .500 this year, which is a long shot, they'll maybe get 1-2 next year. Until then, they'll toil in obscurity with the CBS or FOX d-crew, regional broadcasts. Probably even 2 or 3 Beth Mowins games.

I tend to agree with a two game minimum. Exposure absolutely matters as it breeds familiarity which creates fans. The bigger issue is regional markets. Teams should be able to mandate that their games are shown in certain markets. For example, it blows my mind that the Titans aren't aired every week in Birmingham, Louisville, Paducah/Cape Girardeau, Little Rock and Tupelo along with the markets they currently always get(Memphis, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Knoxville, Tri-Cities) A small market team like the Titans is trying to make a jump shot with a hand tied behind their back and a lid over the rim if they aren't even guaranteed to have all their games shown in markets that are reasonably close. It simply allows the legacy teams to have a ridiculous advantage because they built their brand when there were fewer teams to begin with and now they get all the air time. How can a team like the Titans reasonably compete for a larger fanbase against bigger market/more historic teams when they aren't even permitted to air ALL their games to markets that are nearby and they aren't aired nationally at all when they're bad and totally underexposed when they're good? The Jets have had 1 winning season since 2011. The Patriots have had 3 straight losing seasons. The Raiders have had 2 winning seasons since 2003. The Bears have had 1 winning season since 2013. The cardinals have had 1 winning season since 2016. All of those teams have 2+ prime time games. “Winning your way into prime time” is complete bullshit. They should have just said what they really meant. They don’t care about the Titans or giving them any exposure at all. Even when the Titans make the playoffs they give them a trash time slot. I don’t really care about how many prime time games the Titans get, but the excuse as to why they don’t even have 1 is bullshit. I agree with Russ. Exposure helps teams build fans and generate revenue. The league is not distributing prime time games fairly in a way that generates exposure equally for every team. There are so many prime time games, there is no excuse for every team to not get at least 1. Face, Hyperion, TitanTheGiant, and 3 others

I bet the league's hiney hairs got especially bunched up when the Titans wound up with the #1 pick and opportunity to draft the guy they had to be creaming their shorts would wind up in NY. I just hope they don't subtly try to sabotage his career now that he's on a team they hate exists. Just now, OILERMAN said: I saw some Titans fan posted his response to that. CreepingDeath
This year I don't mind the lack of prime-time because the team is rebuilding AND the access to watching games has changed. It use to be that prime-time (and other nationally-televised) games were the easiest way for me (out of state fan) to watch the game. Now? I have a few websites bookmarked and my expectations are always low for the Titans to be viewed where I live.
