They'd have to get very lucky to draft an impact pass rusher in the 4th or later. Edge is like QB, the good ones go early. Best bet is Jones is an upgrade to Landry(likely). There is probably a better chance Harrell contributes more than a rookie in the 4th or later.

Ball hawk S is added

pass rush adds multiple players (5 tech and OLB) with some improvement over 2024

I think Sweat last yr at his slot was a steal.  The kid being touted at the top of DT line this yr is not as good as Sweat.  UM Graham.  I think he is way overrated.

You probably should factor in expecting a much tougher QB opponent schedule than the cupcake one they got in 2024.....and a reminder that the good offenses they played smoked them.  They played against backup QB's 6 times.  When they played teams with a top 10-12 QB, the defense gave up 34, 45, 27., 42, and 37 points.

I’d guess something in the bottom third like maybe 21.  Current expectation now pre draft is like bottom 3.

You won't get any argument from me that the D was bad.    I'm talking about marginal improvement relative to 2024.  I'll worry about win totals when the picture is a lot clearer and closer to opening day.

 I won't assign a ranking to it.  What I'm getting at is whether it's the correct formula?

The Titans' defense was right outside the top 10 in points allowed in 2022 when they were missing Landry the entire year and had a pretty middling group of talent overall.  A good defensive coach can get results no matter the personnel.  All other things being equal, I'd address a position of need on offense first.

You aren't going through the postseason and beating Allen, Mahomes, Jackson etc... without being able to put a lot of pressure on them. 

 

The Titans Vegas over/under is currently 5.5, beating those guys in the postseason isn't a priority/possibility right now. 

 

Hooker was a stud last year but the other safety position was weak. Upgrading that spot is clearly a priority.  

 

It's unlikely they can add an impact edge but they can get a few guys who are quality rotational/situational types that can play behind stud edge guys added in the future. 

 

Staying at one and taking Ward comes at the expense of adding a guy like Carter and more picks to use on defensive needs. That's going to take more than this season.

If you're looking at where the team can actually improve to win games it's not the defense. It's the pitiful turnover margin and horrid STs play last year. Improving those two areas would create a better record without anything else improving

@dpbrugler made a really good point on the most recent @robertmays Athletic podcast. For NFL teams, 30 visits are more about checking boxes with prospects that raise questions in the room. They're not generally inviting guys they already know are clean and pro-ready.

And not having an absolute albatross of a right side of an offensive line lol idk if I can remember many examples of one side of an offensive line being so prohibitive to an offense. And that’s not hyperbole

There was a graph I saw for tackles last year that measured how often they got help & how productive they were. NPF occupied a space all by himself in the bottom left indicating he got a ton of help & was still destroyed. No one was close to as bad as he was last year. 
 

He needs to be cut. There’s no way he can be the primary backup at LT. We can’t be an injury away from him protecting CW’s blindside.

The more I think about it if one of the edge guys like Pearce falls to 31 or 32 I trade up to get him.  Give up a pick next yr to make it happen and get him on a 5th yr deal.
