I think he needed to hear a grown man tell him that he was running like a bitch. I don't anyone ever told him that before in his life. That probably lit a fire under him as much as facing the possibility of being traded. He was running like Queen Henry.

My point is he was always a great runner and that Mike Mularkey and Robiskie were retarded for trying to start dion lewis and give reps to Fluellen. He didn't magically become more talented he just needed the opportunities and it was dumb not to feature him once it was obvious Demarco Murray was washed up in 2017. And frankly it was retarded for Vrabel to split the carries the way he did in 2018 with Lewis getting 155 carries at 3.3 ypc. Henry was obviously the most talented runner and it was stupid he wasn't getting starter's carries from the beginning and if he and he'd probably be cruising to breaking the all time record. You've had an agenda against the guy form the beginning, and you're as obsessed with him as Trump is with Obama. It's laughable. Just because someone says something and other people agree doesn't make it true. That is my point. OILERMAN, and titanruss 1

I know what he's saying but that is a bad example. Players say things all the time about themselves or a situation they were directly involved in and it's disregarded as untrue here. A great example is from this summer. Ben Jones - a player they love- comes out and straight up says that He and Mariota were calling the second half offense in the playoff game. A rumor that had been reported for a decade. .... of course the anti-Mariota / pro Mulbislkie fans cried and screamed and said he was lying for zero reason at all - They didn't believe him/ said he was full of shit. UNTILLL..... Ben realizes he made people he likes look bad. So he apologizes and recanted a bit to protect them. Which of course they believe that half ass apology story- that he just made up word vomit for zero reason that also confirmed a story - because it agrees with their agenda, rather than the one that was reported and directly confirmed. If you aren’t putting in the time and doing the work (like he said he wasn’t), he doesn’t deserve the opportunities.

I imagine Henry saying he wasn't putting in the work relatively would mean he was working as hard as everyone else. Look at his workouts now...he's a maniac lol. But to your point, that was the switch flipping. He saw it wasn't going to be handed to him and that if he wanted to succeed he needed to change his play style and habits. titanruss, rns90, FireInTheHole, and 1 other
NashvilleNinja
Whether or not Henry just needed more opportunities or whether or not he just needed a pep talk from EG to get off his ass and change how he approached everything, it worked. All I’m getting at is that in order to get opportunities, you need to earn them. Until that point, he had no earned those opportunities.

I’d use another term because not putting in the work implies laziness. i think at some point he finally realized what worked at Alabama wasn’t going to work in the NFL since the defenders are faster and more physical. I think the argument has gone on so long that it's missing the forest for the trees a bit. No singular conversation caused the change. Him getting benched and out snapped by Dion Lewis, then put on the trade block, forcing him to reconcile his situation with how he viewed himself, leading to a conversation where it came together watching film is as genuine of a turnaround as it gets. Regardless of what Mularkey was doing, Vrabel saw the same thing...and so did Henry, himself, viewing himself in film study with a guy he thought enough of to reach out and say "help me". That's a badass right there. It is tough to admit our faults, and doubly so to admit something is wrong outwardly, and then to turn around and become excellent is an amazing arc. In that interview he admitted that before he took it all into account that what he saw was essentially a future with him out of the league. He took matters into his own hands and became the best back of the last decade. Number9

I absolutely without a doubt don't think Derrick Henry wasn't putting in the work. I think like in all jobs, and probably more so in an environment like the NFL, you have to fall in line. I can't be the only person who thought the person in charge was dumb and was frustrated and they could tell and it impacts your opportunities. We've all at some point listened to and done what a boss says because it makes them like you more and favor you more. You ever been on a boss's shit list and had to get humble and work extra hard than the next man to move ahead? This is simple human work social dynamics. But there are legacies and millions of dollars at stake. I think sometimes we see these humans as interchangeable pieces on a board and don't regard the social dynamics. Imagine him pouting or being frustrated at his lack of use, how was that going over for Mularkey. Hell, Imagine Derrick Henry getting on a podcast and saying yeah I was always great and my coach was a dumbass. Maybe five people in the league have talked frankly and they are pariahs like TO. You think Henry wants to be a Pavia? There's no I in team. I actually think Eddie George is a great example because he was a terrible RB for a long time and he stayed the road back because he was well liked by the HC. Run how the coach wants you to run it you don't get the ball. It's really that simple. japan, OILERMAN, and FireInTheHole 2
