Derrick Henry is still an elite back.

Fair enough but let's be real, if there were low-light reels of him out there you'd need a daily IV drip to replenish fluids!

What the fuck do you mean "if"?

I've filled this thread with Henry low lights!

It’s also worth noting that Henry led the NFL in rushing attempts and had zero fumbles….something hasn’t happened in almost 40 years.   The last guy to do this was Gerald Riggs way back in 1985.

Look at all those defenders chasing down a rolling tomato can!

Derrick Henry sure seems to get a lot of those "anybody could do it, perfectly blocked plays" ever since he was declared a bum by message board illuminati.    Luckiest back in history, I gue

First off, look to the posters above you for examples of people saying he ran soft. So much for me putting words in people's mouths. It seems you and them disagree on the root of Henry's issues but I bet you won't say a thing to them. And yes, early on he did bounce runs outside. I never argued that he didn't. I argued that more often than not, he was justified in doing so because there was little to no running room inside. I was right about it then, and I'm still right about it now. And btw, that issue alone does not explain the difference between what he was producing early on and what he became. The very obvious difference, I how much impact the team around him had on his production.

I might not be a film expert but I'm much better at it than most of you which is why everything I've been saying for almost a decade continues to be correct while the people you're caping for continue to get it wrong. You guys talk a big game and call me all kinds of ridiculous shit but when you actually have to back shit it up with video evidence instead of rhetoric, you fall short and the reason why is because no hard evidence of what you believe actually exists. You'll posture, call me names, and act non-chalant but what you won't do is back up your words with film. We're done here.

Idgaf what they said. You quoted me. I didn't say that. So yes, putting words into other's mouths. You tripling down on an incorrect stance isn't changing anything.

I hope I did but cannot recall. But I'm saying right now his bigger problem was bouncing things outside.

Eddie George literally said he was:

Eddie George Told Derrick Henry: "You're Running SOFT"

Yes. I'm aware that Eddie said that. He was wrong of course. But in this very thread you agreed with rns saying Henry was running soft so I'm trying to figure out if that's what you thought as well.

I quoted you because you came in out of nowhere to cosign what they're saying while taking a shot at me for no reason so yes, I'm going to read that as you agreeing with what they're saying. But fine, i'll take you saying that you didn't think he was running soft at face value.

After Eddie gave Henry the pep talk Henry quit running soft

That's the fairest assessment

So now you're saying that he was running soft but talking to Eddie solved it. Didn't you just say that you didn't think he was running soft?

Not saying that Eddie didn't give him useful advice, but did anyone expect the always humble and polite about every RB,  DH to come out and say about Titans legend EG that he was full of shit and didn't know what he was talking about? Seriously.

I don't know in what world a single conversation turns an entire career around. That's the stuff of Disney movies. It make 0 logical sense especially compared to other real world examples of backs struggling when the offense around them struggles and vice versa. People just believe what they want to believe. And like I've said. It's not like the advice had a permanent effect as Henry struggled with consistency many times post Eddie talk.

I said his biggest problem was trying to bounce things outside. I never denied saying he ran soft. I think there were a lot of factors that turned Henry's career around. Eddie, the benching, possible trade all likely factored in. But Henry deserves credit for finally manning up. His balls finally dropped

Henry's turn around is a unique story. RBs usually hit the league from day one producing in the NFL. You rarely see a guy turn his career around after 2-3 years of struggling. Regardless of what the main reason was.

Look, he certainly did improve in certain ways. Any back whose only been in the league 2 years has more ceiling to hit. However, these minor issues that Henry had were not the reason he was struggling with consistency to the degree that he was. You don't become what he became by simply "running harder" unless you were so soft and you effort was so piss-poor that it was holding you back to that degree. He had things to work on as does every young player, but his MAIN issues were the same that they were every other stretch that he struggled in TN; QB, OL, or some combination of the to. Then Vrabel started running him into stacked boxes for no reason until his foot fell off; that certainly didn't help anyone.

Except that Henry's issue was always consistency, not skill-set or ability even with him bouncing shit outside. Even very early on his his career we all saw flashes of what he could be. That's why even you at one point were excited about him. Unfortunately, we didn't have the type of QB or blocking that he needed to be able to show that ability consistently. That's why Tannehill was so transformative. He came in and gave Henry everything he needed to become what he became. Eddie George didn't so shit but Ryan Tannehill did EVERYTHING. Shit, I give Tannehill more credit for Henry becoming an all-pro back than I do Henry himself. If the QB never changes, Henry goes down in history as the exact caliber of back that you've always claimed he was. Improvement or no improvement without a QB and OL, Henry's career was going nowhere.

Pull up the film of him running soft. I'll wait. Your "reality" is false. Unlike most of you, I actually know what I'm looking at.

I think soft is the wrong word and is what is causing problems with the dialog here.

He was hesitant to just pound it up the middle for the dirty yards early on and as others have said bounced most plays outside which really hurt him. He has always taken a few strides to get up his momentum. When he is moving laterally he doesnt build up that speed as quickly and was caught behind or at the line alot.

Where the eddie talk comes in I think which I will say wasnt all of it, the qb and line certainly makes a big difference for a guy who isnt a jitterbug or low to the ground bowling ball, is that he stoped trying to kick it outside and was able to build up that momentum he needs to run threw guys in the short yard between the tackles game.
