I keep thinking about the QB situation and just legitimately can't see another viable option for 2023, other than Tannehill.

Tannehill > Jimmy G

Tannehill > Daniel Jones

I can't see them paying Lamar with how cap strapped we are. Would require too many sacrifices elsewhere.

Maybe Geno, but that's somewhat of a risk too. He actually reminds me a bit of Tannehill having his resurgence in TN. I feel like Geno is still in that "is this for real?" stage. Surprsingly to me, Geno isn't that much younger than Tannehill (32 vs 34). So I feel like that one is unlikely too.

I think the only way a new QB is starting for the Titans in 2023 is if the new GM and Vrabel agree on a guy they love in the draft and trade the farm to move up for him.

I don't think you look at it as that.

Tannehill at a $36M Cap Hit or someone like Gardner Minshew or at $10M cap hit?

This is assuming the team thinks that they can get another QB to play in the system they have or will have and that they do not need a top flight QB to lean on.

They save $27M against the cap if Tannehill is cut with a post 6/1 designation.

I would add, you only do this if you falter in the playoffs again and Tannehill ends up being the reason why. They will have seen what a Tannehill lead QB'd team is and how good it can be but they may have already seen as far as he can take them. Then they need to look and see if another way is the better alternative instead of living in NFL purgatory for another year or two by re-doing Tannehill's contract again this off-season.

Vrabel gaining more personnel control is not a good thing - regardless of who the new GM is - I promise you that.

Vrabel's comment "who is he going to throw it to?" about the receivers/Malik is a little more cryptic now.    I loved Jrob, but I love AAS more. She ain't fucking around. Ya love to see it.

welcome aboard. a good not great GM whose mistakes compounded over the last 10 months which got him fired. That is a far different conversation than the one the board was having this time last week when most were happy with the overall roster and claiming his draft record was stellar while blaming injuries for the downturn in production.

It's sloppy for me because IMO it was injuries that allowed his mistakes to catch up with him. You really think we're just as bad if Lewan, Burks, Phillips, Davis, Landry etc, never go down or are chronically injured? No way. The cracks were there for sure but he was doing a decent job papering them over. Before he got fired no one was calling for his job and it was a surprising move for good reason. I still think hos overall eye for talent is as good as any GM out there (sans the OL) but he made mistakes that I can see being fireable. Personally, I wouldn't have moved on from him but that's because I had faith he could figure the OL out eventually. Amy didn't share my faith and it's really hard to argue against her justification for doing so.

Robinson's self described excuse was that they couldn't fully conduct their process during the covid years. I basically blamed those two years for the drop off in personnel - the thought being that Robinson just couldn't run his old school scouting operation the way that works for him in a virtual environment. But the draft class this year aside from Willis looks much more promising. Seemed like he'd get back on track with higher caliber drafting post-pandemic.

What Robinson failed to do this offseason after two consecutive piss poor offseasons was twofold in my mind: retain AJ Brown and build a championship level offensive line (which includes making the mistake of relying on Lewan again - I said this offseason that he should have been traded).

One thing that Robinson had that is very rare in the GM world and will be very hard to replicate is this: moving on quickly from clear mistakes. I hope Vrabel and the next Personnel Exec have the same mindset in that regard, because mistakes will be made.

How long do you think we'll go before Robinson says anything? Surprised he hasn't put out a statement yet.

however long he collects a paycheck from the organization for at a minimum. I imagine we won't really get the truth until he retires from football.

Kind of reminiscent of the Mularkey situation so far.

Hopefully he does the classy thing here pretty soon rather than choosing the pettiness of the guy he forced out a few years back.

(I bet Mularkey is laughing this week btw)

not me….I was calling him out during the game and the week prior.  I’ve always viewed him as a pretty good GM, but soured on him this year when seeing how “un-loaded” this roster was :)

If he wants another job as a GM he'll shut his mouth...

Well yeah, but you would have thought by now he'd have issued a statement thanking Strunk and the organization and the city, etc.

Combined with horrible luck with injuries. Everyone he's taken a risk on has basically been carried off on a stretcher shortly thereafter.

Injury luck plays a massive role in success or failure in this league, and we've been the most injured team of all time over the past 2+ years.

This is a separate topic, but another thing that luck really affects is turnovers, and while we haven't turned it over much, we also haven't gotten many. As good as our defense has been for stretches, we've forced fewer turnovers than terrible defenses like the Texans. They've forced more than we have. And only the Jets and Steelers have forced fewer fumbles. This is luck, mostly. Very, very rarely forcing any fumbles is an ongoing curious problem.

We never give games away with turnovers (the Texans home game last year stands out), but no one gives them away to us either (the Commanders game comes close). That's why we play so many close games.

If I could get my hands on a good dataset on injuries, I would do an extensive analysis on this topic myself. I know we have had a lot of injuries, but my gut says that the style in which we play contributes to this as well as the specific type of players we recruit. Also, to what extent do our strength and conditioning program plays in these outcomes. It's a fascinating topic I would love to dig into if I had the data.
