Popular Post OILERMAN
I honestly loved what Robinson did in free agency and the draft to upgrade the roster and fill needs. When free agency started Daquan Jones was the priority to keep in my opinion, I started a thread about it. I don't know if it was a fluke or real but he really came on and looked like a force before getting hurt. If he returns and plays like he did in the few games before the injury he's going to really help the front. Succop was a no brainer signing. He would have gotten franchised. The biggest problem with the running game was Murray was washed up. Henry(debated at nauseam) is a limited RB who is a liability in the passing game, he's a pure runner, not an all around RB.. Cutting Murray and adding the best RB in free agency was a huge upgrade. Lewis can play be a real threat in the passing game. Lewis was also very good between the tackles. Butler is not the team's best CB and strengthened an area they were already getting strong at. They probably could have gotten by with Sims but Butler is a big upgrade and you can't have enough cover people. The defense was shredded against quality QBs last year. The two draft picks are pretty obvious. Evans is a 3rd down MLB in the Godfrey mold. He'll QB the defense and get the helmet with the sound system eventually and Landry was added to improve the pass rush and likely take over for Orapako next year. Two big needs. Bennie Logan for Sly Williams, we'll see. likely an upgrade. Compton is depth/STs and maybe short yardage inside beef in goaline packages. Pamphile is the standard interior swing guy. They kept the OL intact, which I thought was fine. Murray was the problem there. Gabbert is better than Cassel at this point. The key will be Mariota improving and moving on from the injury, which I believe was his biggest problem last year. Corey Davis showed down the stretch he can be big time so he should be another upgrade just by being healthy after missing the start and most of the season. 4 big time upgrades in Lewis, Butler, Evans and Landry. They still need someone to emerge as a capable RB and need a safety behind the two starters. Getting Davis back healthy should be a huge addition in itself. He wasn’t much of an impact last year being injured. Him and Matthews should be a good starting pair. As for WR depth, someone needs to step up because no one has ever really produced in the NFL yet.
japan
I feel good about the WR corp. Maybe they bring in some vet late to compete but I think you see a big difference from last season.
rekirts
only thing I disagree with is Malcolm is certainly our best CB. He was above Logan in NE and I don't think Adoree is there yet? Edited April 29, 2018 by rekirts TeamBass
Jamalisms
And the biggest upgrade: Scheme The OL is a legit concern, imo. The hope is it's adequate. They still have weaknesses on the interior and we'll see how they adapt to more zone. Hopefully one of the guys steps up to be decent at LG. That would leave Jones at C and Kline at RG which is very meh. Jones is an early candidate for replacement next year. I don't think Conklin is a + in zone the way he was before and he'll probably receive less help in the new scheme... plus he's (hopefully) coming back from major injury. He'll be lesser than he was and maybe even notably worse. If we have to rely on Kelly, that's not good. RT, C, LG and RG are concerns, in that order. LT is great as long as Lewan is healthy. But he's injured a good bit every year. We need a better backup T (maybe two until Conklin is healthy) someone to step up at LG, Jones not to continue deteriorating and Kline to max out his abilities as not actively good but consistent. We won't need all of those things to happen to be good enough but we'll need some. I'm in a wait and see. titanruss, Thrill, AvgJoe, and 1 other
Navi
Hard to judge the WR corp with such sloppy play calling down the stretch, and catchable drops by veterans including Delanie. I am interested in seeing how this offense evolves from a pass protection point of view (Murray was a good blocker, but too often only used as such), and utilizing speed to get the Y.A.C we have always heard of. Justafan
I still see a hole at backup FS, WR, RB, G, C, T but those are all depth holes and not starter holes. I would love to see upgrades at LG, C and maybe the third WR but other than that, this roster is pretty solid from top to bottom. Assuming Mariota is healthy and the scheme doesn't blow, this team should be able to line up and compete with anyone.
