I’ll be honest, taking Styles straight up at 4 would be the most um…uninspiring choice out of all the realistic choices.

 

It’s not even that he’s an off ball LB. It’s that Saleh has proven he can coach up that position.  And that you can acquire these guys at a lower cost.

 

I’d prefer for one of the edge guys to drop (50/50 shot at best), trade down, take offensive playmaker , trade up one spot w/Arz to acquire whichever edge rusher jets don’t pick .

Id be so nervous taking Styles in the top 5. What you need him to be to justify taking him there is just unlikely. As an athlete he is unlike any LB we've seen, but as a player his film is not standout elite-- he lacks game changing impact.

 

I truly believe he will go on to be a very good LB, but one his original team will debate about extending beyond his first contract. To justify top 5, you have to be sure he's going to be a top 3 LB in the league by year 3 and on perennial all pro trajectory

The other part that gets under-discussed is that this is a really good draft for LBs (especially off ball). I think the value is in the 3rd-4th round at that position. I can absolutely envision the scenario, for instance, where CJ Allen adapts to the NFL game faster than Styles and makes a bigger impact in his first couple of seasons. 

 

CJ Allen is probably locked into the 2nd round.

He had 4 Ints, 6 PBUs, plus 7 FFS last year.

For anyone doubting Jacob Rodriguez's functional athleticism at 6'1", 233 pounds, his first day at the Senior Bowl may quell some concerns. He logged the fastest max speed among National Team linebackers with a pace of 18.73 MPH, and thrived in coverage with his closing burst.

Working overtop breaks in short zones, Rodriguez showed he could stay square to potential threats, then suddenly plant-and-drive to close ground and contest. There have been questions about his translatability, but he impacted the ball at an elite level in college, and he's already finding a way to do that in Mobile.

 

In coverage, Rodriguez was particularly effective on Wednesday. In 1-on-1s, he ran with Seth McGowan on a vertical route, preventing a completion. And in team drills, he showed off his savvy in zone coverage, reading Sawyer Robertson and undercutting an ill-fated middle-field pass for an interception.

That is more related to him giving up the most yardage in coverage this year of all the LB’s, however that also might have something to do with how the Texas Tech defense was ran.

Hes good in coverage but from what @AussieTitanFan08posted when he fucks up he fucks up bad.

I dont see Rodriguez falling out of the top 40. He was the best LB in college and actually has the athletic measurables to backup the production
