Possibly to avoid the spectacle of the shooting flames. Personally I don’t care because It’s just a book and Trump certainly doesn’t value it (unless he can sell it). But just imagine the reaction from the right if Obama had refused to put his hand on the Bible when he took the oath. He’s heard the book says some very mean, unfair stuff about wealthy moneylenders not inheriting the kingdom, which is obviously bullshit.
