He is still going to be the #1 FA QB this offseason.

There aren’t enough qb options available in relation to teams that have a massive need at qb.

He’ll still get paid because of this.

Unfortunately I think this puts us MORE in on Darnold.

He'll be easier to let go of for Minn.

You’d think if they saw this they’d know they’d be getting another tannehill at best and they need to draft a QB. Leave those dumb decisions to the Giants

It only makes “sense” if you’re not really competing (for playoffs etc) and really need to collect picks ( by trading the #1 pick)and volume while showing progress and building towards a winner.

It makes sense if you're worried about your job security. Darnold + extra picks in a trade down probably gives you a better chance to be competitive in 2025. I think most coaches if concerned about their job would err on the side of a QB who played really well this season and has has 7 years of tape in the NFL v. an unknown with 0 pro snaps. If we draft Ward, I certainly hope he's closer to Daniels than Bryce Young or Caleb Williams. If it's the latter, could be really rough again. And both Young and Caleb got their HC fired in their rookie years.

Honestly got no idea what the Vikings do with Darnold after what he has shown over the last two weeks just how much damage has those two weeks done compared to the whole body of work this season.

Not sure they would be keen to tie up $41 million via the franchise tag when he is unlikely to see offers in that price range now.
